Engine runs rough only at certain speeds.

I have finished my restoration of my 82 GSL and have been driving it for a while. My problem is that it idles fine, but when it is at high idle or running between 2000 and 3200 rpm it runs rough like it is missing or something. This is not the origional engine in the car. I had to replace the engine, and am not sure what its history is. I don't know if it has been ported or what. First off, could a port job cause it to run rough only at certain speeds, and second, how can I tell if it has been ported, without tearing down the engine? I have already rebuilt the carb, and completely redone the ignition with all new wires cap rotor, and digital ignition box. It has a new fuel pump and filter, but no regulator. Rats nest is removed, along with all emissions, and I'm running a Racing Beat header and exhause system. I can't think of what else you might need to know.
Thanks,
Darrell

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue, maybe the carb?
Did you change your plugs too? Its not in your post but since you said "redid the entire system" I'm assuming you did.

Some links to look at if it may be Carburetor related-

Q. I'm having trouble with my Nikki carburetor, what should I look for?
A. Sterling has written some excellent articles on the subject, check them out.

Also check your timing.
Most of these issues stem from when the rats nests is removed!

Thank you for your kind and quick responses. I had to remove the rats nest, there wasn't one on the replacement motor that I purchased, and the one on the old one was all beat up, solenoids missing, dirty, cracked hoses, etc. The car had been setting for 17 years and mud dobbers had built nests in everything. What they didn't the mice chewed up. I appreciate your help, and will check all of the threads listed above, and on Sterlings site. I used it as my guide when I rebuilt the carb. I need to buy a timing light!
