Engine runs great... Should I be worried?

First off, I know its a weird title, but here's the story:

I don't remember where I heard this, but someone said on the fourms that a rotary runs its best just before she croaks...

Which has now got me a little worried, because after fixing a 3 1/2 inch screw in my tire (I still have no ******* clue where I picked it up) and balancing said tire.. my rex was going real nice. I mean like 7 second 0-60 maybe... O.o Should I be worried that my seals are gonna go? Just real paranoid, because I don't have the money to get seals and I love driving her as my daily...

I believe you can't really feel that your seals are going bad just because someone said that quote. Treat the car as you've always treated it and it'll last you as long as it wants to.

Definitely don't worry about it. Its just myth. Just make sure it doesn't over heat, and make sure it never goes low on oil and it will keep on like a champ.

and make sure you don't run low on coolant, or run out alltogether. (Check my recent thread as to why)

Alright, thanks for the help guys. I just wanted to make sure that I am not going to be enjoying my baby and suddenly lose a rotor...

And my compression is great, the engine gets me to 60 from zip in a zoom zoom 7 seconds. I just wanted to make sure that I am just being very paranoid. After all my baby is like 233,000 miles and growing without a problem. Well then I will carry on with my baby like ussual.

This can happen after many miles when the Apex seals are well worn.
The engine will seem to run extremley well, more so than you would have been used to. Their may be the start of some abnormal engine noise.
Also one of the indications will be hard starting along with this.
Something to worry about, no.
Drive the car and keep her maintained.

0-60 in 7 seconds. I think you are going by the Butt dyno.

My 83GS has consistently run sweet and smooth for the 130k since I bought it new, and I do NOT expect it to fail me.

Don't abuse your car and it won't abuse you.

A redline a day keeps the mechanics at bay.... Regular use of seafoam through the gas tank also keeps things moving freely and reduces carbon buildup. Just drive it like you love it man...

Yeah, gotta love that butt dyno! I just figured an average 7-8 secs from a stop to another light, by the time I started hitting the brakes I was at 75mph, and it wasn't that long a stretch...

But I will listen for abnormal noises... and grab some seafoam... she prolly hasn had some in years...

thanks guys.

I've heard of this before and believe it has some merit, oddly enough. I suspect it's due in part that because an engine seems to be running better, an owner tends to push the limits more than usual and this is when the failure occurs.

Nothing you can do about it. Drive it as susual, if it's ready to fail, it will, period.

Just my input, but i had a seal break while i was weighting at a red light. after that it ran like a 4 cilinder with a bad plug. drove it like that for a week to work and back and even in my garage so I could pull the engine.

Oh, and it even had good compression numbers.
