What kind of hp can I expect?

I'm just wondering if any of you guys have any data on what kind of power you guys are putting out with different setups. I'm kindof trying to figure out what my limits are with out boost or porting.

We're gonna need some specifics if we're going to tell ya! Are you talking 12A or 13B? I think the general consensus with 12As is that the max you can get with bolt ons is about 150 bhp, and that's if you know what you are doing and have every bolt on known to the rotary world. If you want to hit 200 bhp you're gonna need to do some porting. Anything above 200 bhp and you're talking serious porting and or turbo...

That should get you started....

Sounds about right to me as well, dont forget that 150hp in an FB is no slouch. Also consider that 150hp is 50% more than stock!

So what are areas your curious about?

N/A Induction
Exhaust
Ignition

I think those are the only performance "areas" without getting into porting or forced induction.

+1 on the 150HP, bolt-on equipped 12A being fun.

Full exhaust, direct fire MSD ignition, light flywheel and a performance carb made for a responsive, quick 12A car....and all those mods carried over well onto my 13B 4-port, for about 170HP and even more torque.
Although, there is a down side.......The gas milage is going to suck compared to stock and youll NEVER pass a smog test in CA with that setup.

A mostly stock S4 TII swap added a bit more power,up to about 200HP, but turbocharging provides tons more usable torque compared to the somewhat anemic N/A rotary,so it felt like I had tripled the power. A ported S5 engine and bigger turbo put me up to my current 300HP mark, which is a perfect stopping point for a daily driven 1st gen thats expected to get decent milage and last a long time.....not to mention pass CA smog!

I agree on the passing Smog portion Steve. The mileage thing is a matter of where you keep your foot on the throttle. :-)

When I had my first Mikuni 44PHH with the full RB exhaust system and did freeway driving at 65mph with no spirited driving. I got between 23-26 MPG.

True, but who's gonna drop enough dough to get a 50% power gain and then drive like Miss Daisy?

When I got all my bolt-ons and my Yaw carb installed,my driving habits took a turn for the worse (or,better?). It was tons of fun,but I got more tickets in that 3 year timespan than any other period over the last 11 years Ive owned the car.I rarely ever get a ticket now because with the TII engine,if I drove like I did back then,Id be going triple digits on surface streets and probably be dead!

Thanks guys, that's a lot of good info. I'm looking at buying a GSL SE and I probably won't have the time to pull the engine and get it ported right away. Just looking for ideas for an inexpensive fun quick toy and I think these cars are as cool as ****.

Go with a forced air intake, K&N air filter, and Racing Beat full exhaust setup FTW.
