engine removal, quick Question
Ok, I'm going to be removing just my engine tommorrow morning, and i have a lift and the chain and all, but as for where to attach the chain to the engine, i have one hook behind the alternator, but as for the rear part of the engine, i wasn't sure, i see a hole in the engine that is paralel to the engine, and i tried putting a transmission bolt in there, and it fit well, my question is that should i attach the other part of the chain to that bolt? is it strong enough? any experience?
thanks guys and gals, Matt

There should be another yellow thing that you can connect back there... it should look like the one behind the alternator... I'm sure of it... I see it all the time on my GSL-SE motor............ It should be strong enough... I've seen someone pull it out with just that one connection thing behind the alternator...

yea i know it should be back there, but there isn't, i have seen pictures, of where it should be, but i'm wondering if just a simple bolt will do the trick.

Loosen all bolts to the tranny..the starter...coolant lines..Unplug the harness, take out the rad..clutch fan .engine mount etc..
Put one side of the chain to the engine lift point in the front part of the engine, towards the passenger side I thread a bolt back into the engine with the chain in the bolt..dont thread it all the way though.. yes it will work ..and its strong enough
Crank up the lift once the engine starts coming off the mounts...get someoen to grab the engine from the front and pull ..it willcome off the tranny..
Quick and easy

I'm 5'11 135lbs and me and jeremy lifted out a 13b by hand,
hes also pretty skinny.
thats just one example from a member on this board, I have yanked 4 13b's and about 10 12a's, all by hand.
its all in the way you lift it, dont use chains and pipes.

I hate pulling engines like this... I rather put out the $135. and save my back

There should be two loops to put the chain through. ONe on the frfont of the motor, one on the back. The back one has a bolt that goes from the front of the car throught the engine, through the trans, then through a nut.
I always use a block and tackle over one of my garage rafters to pull engines. You can get one pretty cheap at a parts store.

I'm with sorrow on this one. My back got hosed in a collision where I was sandwiched between to large pickups. I pulled it out using chain and 2x4, but when it came time to put it back in - I bought a hoist. 2 weeks after pulling the engine and my back still hurt like hell.
