engine management question?

Posted this question in the haltech forum as well. I was looking at the haltech f10 as a possible candidate for my 12at. But was wondering which engine management you guys used for your 12at projects. And if someone has used this haltech unit before, would I need a boost controller as well or would this engine management system do both? I'd also like to know which management systems you guys have used and would recommend.

I think that www.megasquirt.com is the web site. It is a build your own program yourself unit. I did the hardware work on mine and a buddy did the programing. Sorry no pics. I don't think that I hae ever taken pics of anything I have ever done. Something else I need to look into.

For MegaSquirt forums:
http://www.msefi.com/

For rotary-specific info:
http://www.megasquirt.info/manual/rotary.htm

Fuel-only is a breeze. Ignition requires more effort, and as yet does not support adjustable split.

I've got the F10 on my NA 13b. I'm happy with the functionality and the laptop interface. It makes data logging very easy.

Pictures are kinda useless. The ECU is behind the center console and the harness runs through the firewall with all the other wires, so there's really nothing to see.

I'd recommend downloading the software of the systems you are considering to see if they have the interface and functionality you're interested in.

renns, do you think it'd be appropriate to update that rotary page with more up to date info? Not to toot your horn, but staged injection is a lot more handy than Kurt staging or Dual Table when using a stock Mazda throttle body, as the majority of rotary MS users have used (to the best of my knowledge). I think more emphasis should be placed on staged injection, as well as adding some new info to reflect the additions and new features in the -Extra code 021u3 at least, since it's the most recent 'stable' release and includes basically everything a 12A/13B would need. What do you think?

Lee,

Are you planning to retain the distributor for ignition? If so, the spark capabilities of the E6X will go unused, and fuel-only is likely all you need. No use paying for features you don't need. Of course if you plan full ignition control now or in the future, then the E6X or equivalent makes more sense.

Another issue to keep in mind is that of installation/tuning support. Unless you plan to install and tune yourself, I'd suggest finding a local reputable rotary-experienced shop, and use the standalone they recommend.

Jeff, yes, the site could use some updating. Lance manages that, and adds info he collects from the forum. Once the warm weather arrives, I'll post updated config info for MSnSExtra, and have him add it to the site.

I've only used the Haltech, so I couldn't talk to the other systems available, but it's pretty easy to set up and get the car running. Tuning is pretty easy too, actually.

It's easy to set up for staged injection for a set of secondary injectors and can use either high or low impedance injectors without modification. You can hook up either a wide band or narrow band O2 sensor for closed loop operation when cruising. It can control an idle air control system, an electric fan, a variable intake system, a turbo wastegate, a secondary fuel pump, and a few other things.

I'd recommend it.

Hmm the ECU on my engine came off a 12A Turbo, it's a Microtech Digi Series 1 Pro (like 10 years old) but it works with current microtech handsets.... It may be cheap, but may also have limitations.

Ya I guess I have to decide if I'm keeping the distributor for ignition or not but even if I do it would be nice to have the spark option that the E6X offers for later on...as for getting someone else to install it at a rotary specific shop I'd say I'm pretty much outta luck there...I gotta do this all myself which I'm not to sure about...I was also wondering if I will need to get some computer device to control the turbo boost or if the E6X will do that for me as well?
