Starting to work on my Sparkling Black Met ‘84 and I'd like to confirm what I suspect to be the case. Did Mazda not clear coat the engine bay for those colors which were base/clear? It appears to be so, but i want to confirm before i repaint.

It’s been a looong time since I've had a clear coated 7, so I don’t recall from experience.

The base/clear painted 7's did not have clear coat on the paint in the engine bay or under the hood. The paint is excellent quality however and will stand up to a lot of heat and chemicals.
