Painting the engine bay
Painting the engine bay
I am about to paint my engine bay and am trying to figure out which color to paint it. I have a blk on blk R1 that i am restoring and i am toying with the option of painting the engine bay a different color or just playing it safe and doing the oem flat black. What do you guys think? A couple of years ago Porsche came out with a color called Cream White that gives an amazing contrast with black. I think it would either look really good or really really bad. Has anybody went with a different colored engine bay on their FD.
I would suggest keeping it the same color as the rest of the body. When the engine bay doesn't match, it looks like someone cheap'd out on their paint job when they changed the car color (i.e. they didn't want to pay to have the engine bay match the car).
i also agree with matching the body/engine bay but not necessary, i got my fd professionally painted championship white and i chose to get the engine bay painted with some heat resistant flat black paint. and my car was originally Vintage Red.
I like the look of a flat or semi gloss black engine bay on a car that is of another color. It makes it easier to keep clean or at least look clean and it also creates a good contrast between your engine and its accessories. For instance, if you have polished parts, colored vacuum hoses, ss lines, etc, they really look clean in a black engine bay.
Color matching to the cars exterior looks really clean too though because it is how it is supposed to look.
