Question Emissions testing. "Texas"

Am planning on putting my '85 RX7 back on the road. I am wondering if I will have any problem with the emissions testing now required in Williamson County. It has the original stock exhaust system on it. Any one had their RX7 tested in Williamson or Travis counties?

you shouldnt if the car has been taken care of...right before you take it to the sniffer do a spirited run to get the cats hot enough...i live in bell county and all of us tuners hope that the sniffer doesnt get here in killeen, which it might. you might wanna check the exhaust if you have the time... depending on where to get sniffed they will be leinient on your car cause its 21 years old...either that or what 3 more years and you dont need to get sniffed, 24yo cars are exempt in TX

That's like asking if I'll win the lotto next week.

Biggest thing I can think of is putting a new O2 sensor on if you have a FI 13b--carb I don't know. Make sure the air pump is putting out air, and if the stock cat is still there then pray you pass--good chance you'll need a new one at about $200 (don't get the cheap ones).

Find out the nearest county that doesnt test and drive there if possible. Or you could try your luck and see what happens

You can get better results if you find alcohol mixed gas.. find the highest concentration and run that (though M85 may kill it... i hear the stuff is really corrosive).

if it fails, post back and let us know why...

it depends on the specific legislation i know that if you tried to get it registered in cali good luck cus when i lived thier they had one of the toughest emmisions test out thier so as long as you could keep it registered in texas it would probally work just be sure to check your vin # and wait till that month so you know exactly when your car is 25 years old if that is thelaw in texas the one thing i do know that all cars have to pass it if thier where made in 1985 or later i belive thanks to our government!!

I believe in texas, if the car is more than 24 years old, you are exempt from emission testing.

However--they are supposed to still do a visual and check to see that the equipment is installed--fwiw.

Just a few more years for me
