Electronic Ignition
Lets say that money wasnt an object......
Is there a way to completly eliminate the "Dizzy" and the coils as they are on a 12A?
Looking at new cars they have no distributor cap or even wires.
Can this be done?
Say 4 coils one wired per plug or a coil on plug concept.......

I was jsut talking to my dad about this. He says he could design a computer to time the coils, however he would need dyno charts ect, to set teh computer up right. It would also cost alot of cash for 4 coils... 200$ here in Canada.

There are a few ways to do this.
You can run a full 2nd gen ignition with an ECU. You can use a Megasquirt, Haltech, and so on. You will need to map the ignition timing for these guys. You may need to add a couple sensors as well.
Another option is to modify the 1st gen dizzy. Add another set of reluctor/VR sensors above the ones already in place. Add either 1 or 2 additional ignitors.
The easiest option is to just run trailing through the distributor and then do one of the direct fire setups (DLIDFIS, 2GCDFIS, TT, and so on) on the leading. You could even eliminate the trailing as it doesn't contribute much.
The best option is the 1st one as you would be able to have a custom timing advance based on RPM and load. You could do the MegaSquirt with the full second gen igniton for a few hundred dollars. If you went that route, you could then use the MS to add fuel injection later.

Check out the megasquirt section on here. It is under the engine management section. That should have a lot of the info. jayroc on the forum is currently selling his EFI setup for a 12A engine. He is running MS fuel injection and spark control. He has the 2nd gen coils and CAS for igntion. You may want to check it out (under 1st gen for sale). I think he wants to sell as a package, though.

full DFIS
Add a second reluctor above the stock one.
Remove two lobes from the stock reluctor.
Mod the L pickup to fire from the new four lobe reluctor.
Add a second pickup to the T pickup mount at 90 degrees from the first.
Mount a dual outlet GM HEI coil to fire L plugs in a wasted spark setup triggered by the pickup in the distributor running through a GM HEI module (ignitor)
The two original pickups and ignitors fire the T plugs alternately through one coil per rotor. (the two original coils)
This results in all plugs with less than 1 foot of wire and no secondary voltage in the distributor at all. Full centrifugal and vacuum advance is retained.
