Electric Fans...How Big Do I Need?
I'm lookin to ditch my mech fan and i'm wonderin how big of a fan i need to get...i heard someone say nothin smaller then 2200 cfm but that seems pretty big to me...i can get a 1400cfm for $65 and i'm wonderin if that will be enough?

I would say you NEED 2000 CFM absolutely minimum. Most people recommend 2500 CFM.
Rotaries run hot if you haven't already heard. Ricer fans, or even robust piston fans are just not enough.
If you cheap out on a fan you will be out of an engine.
Other common replacements are older taurus e-fans or MR2 fans which are almost direct bolt on, robust enough AND usually can be found easily enough in junk yards.
Flex-a-lite fans are common and offer a wide range of CFM all the way up to the black magic fan which is expensive but awesome.

yea i've read about the taurus and mr-2 fans...i work at autozone so what i did is i looked up a replacement elec fan for a 93 taurus and it pulled up the 1400 cfm...so 2000 cfm min then you would say?

Thats what i personally recommend. I didn't know the stats on the taurus fan that some people use successfully.
I mean flex-a-lite has some good inexpensive fans. Its just something I would not want to risk if buying a new one vs finding one in a junk yard and trying it out for 20$

I think there are two different fans for that model of car, depending on which engine you have. You want the 2 speed fan from the V6 Taurus. I don't know how many CFM the fan puts out, but I can tell you that it is unlike anything I've ever felt before. You can stand at the back bumper, or even 2-3 feet from the back bumper, and feel the fan blowing. You might want to upgrade to a S4 alternator if you use this fan also. It pulls about 25-28 amps while running, so it can be a little harsh on the stock 1st gen charging system. But, oh how it keeps the 12A cool...

Mr2 fans are like a tornado as well. I have them on my turbo 12a keeps it cool. The upgraded alt is a must with these they put a big strain on the system when on. You can also get away with running just one of these as well. I have pics on here some where with the fan installed.

The stock alt is a joke. Most cars the volt meter moves when the blinkers are on. regardless about efan Upgrading the alt is a most once you start using bigger fuel pumps and 2nd gen coil and stereo equipment.
Switching from the stock fan will give you no improvement really other than quicker rev's in 1st and 2nd. If you dot need the space or your clutch fan is working right stick with it

I'm using the MR2 fans, with the stock alternator, and love it. It looks pretty good too, if I don't say so myself.

I'd save your bucks for gas, that stuff is getting pretty expensive.

I was actually running only one of those fans for about two years. I just added the other one this spring while installing the new motor. Even with one fan, I never had an issue with temps even while racing...

'92 Ford Escort fan. Has always run cool for me but then again I'm running a FC oil cooler mounted farther foreward too. I upgraded to the FD alternator the same time so I don't know how the crappy 50 amp stock alt would hold up.
