E-Brake broke help
Well I wanted to use my ebreak because i was on a incline and noticed i was still rolling back. Wondering what the heck was going on I looked under the car and boom there to my suprised my ebrake cable was in 2 ! Where can I buy a new one, how much do they cost and how easy is it to fix and put in a new one. Thanks. Also if anyone has instructions on how to put a new one in that would be great.

You can buy them from victoria british ... i'm at school right now and i don't remember the price of them, but i think that the total for all the 3 sections was about 100 bucks, i personally just got some from a guy on this forum... still waiting on getting them in, but i'll let you know how things are installed ... i will try to take som pictures too.

humm I also have a broken ebrake cable.. when i'm under the car you can see the cable hanging. Not the one near the rear of the vehivle but the one before it. 3 parts? I know when I pull the cable there still some break action. Where do the 3 parts go to?
I am mad because I have to have the car inspected this month otherwide it wouldn't bother me as much.

From my understanding and looking at the pictures in the Victoria British catalogue, the first one is a line from the hand brake lever to the middle of the car, from there a one piece wire is used by the two ends to the cables that actually attach to the brake calipers. I would assume that both that the case in both your cars, the cable that that broke what the one that used to attach the lever cable with the rear cables on the calipers. The cables that attach to the calipers are in a plastic tube so you wouldn't be able to see actual stainless steel wire as oppose to the middle section which is just the bare wire nothing to cover it.

I can see it hanging in the middle of the car. Like if I look under it you will see two ends hanging down and I want to get that fixed. What is the link to this victoria site and also what do I need to buy to install? Is it easy? Hard? Help please.

Raise your car and go under to find out which cable is the problem. Your description indicates it's the middle section which is the cheapest and easiest to replace.

when you go to replace the cable, i'd suggest dropping the driveshaft out of the way. be sure to put a mark at the end where it mates to the yoke, so that the assy. is still balanced when you re-attatch it. i did my cable without dropping the driveshaft, it took me 5 hours and i would not want to do it again. Good luck!

I would replace all 3 at once. The front cable may be the one that is broken, but the other 2 also have exposed cable (they are only covered fron the calliper to the frame rail). You can bet that at least one other is rusting through.
Just raise the car (on 4 jackstands) high enough for your elbows to be able to move around and it wont take 5 hours.
You'll need 2 new clips to lock the rear cables in at the frame. The cotter pins to tie the rear cables to the front cable should come with the cables. Better order everything at once to save on a trip back to the store for missing components.
You can order the cables from your corner car parts store without going through Victoria British. Since the e-brake is not working I would remove the whole mess right now so that you can compare them with what arrives after you place your order.
There should be 2 different length cables for the rear since the right side cable routes over the exhaust and the left routes straight to the front cable. Mine were all the one length, old and new cables and right/left. If this is what you find when you get them, make sure that the new cables are the same length as your longer cable.
I would rate this job as easy since you do not need and impact gun or special mechanical knowledge.

Dom- Your's are good clear instructions and replacing everything is good advice. When I have done it on a range of cars, including some classics prehydraulics, most of the time was wasted freeing up the rust so I wish someone had read Trochoid's point about grease! BP Blaster is new to me so presume its a rust softening spray used when parts have corroded themselves together in an act of self-welding. We love it here and don't want to be parted!

..>>>>THIS IN NO WAY IS MENT TO BE A PERMANENT FIX<<<<..
its amazeing how much money you can save by going to home depot, I had to pass the safty inspection today so I went to home depot and got some cable the same size and some swagers and a swager tool. Total cost = less than 30 buks. How it makes the breaks feel.. like new. You must lift the car high enough so that you can move freely underneath. I had the car about 2 feet in the air, and still strugled. I will let everyone know how long it last as soon as it breaks or slips to far to hold the car. I have done several attemps to anialate the make shift cable. still nothing has gone wrong. I have held the car with this cable up to 3000 RPMs.
THIS IN NO WAY IS MENT TO BE A PERMANENT FIX
Where I live the short cable cost 79 and the others cost 89 each.. I only had to replace the one under the handle, that goes to the driver side rear wheel. It took me all of 30 minutes to put on. BE CAREFULL
