Draw Through set up???

Why are Draw Through setups look down apon compared to Blow Through setup?

What are the Advantages and Disadvantages to having a Draw Through?

Many people argue that they are not as sufficent as intercooled blow-through set-ups. Most of the people that say that have now clue how draw throughs even work. I give them a A++. It is a simple, clean setup, and they can run very well when tuned properly. For example, I spent most of my last summer helping my brother install a 12a turbo engine into his 85 gs. He ended up upgrading the setup with a Rayjay draw through setup, and it was a big increase in power. He runs a 650 holley double pumper, 10 psi of boost for everyday use. I owned a 13 sec. turbo II at the time, so we test and tuned together. The first time we raced, he pulled 3 cars on me @ only 6psi!!! He now runs 12 sec. 1/4 miles @ 12psi on tinny 205/40/17 rear tires. Does that answer your question?

So....Since the carb sits on the inlet side of the turbo, would the carb still have to be prepped like what Racing Beat does? Or any Holley carb of the shelf would work?

You would have to prep the carb. depending on your own setup. Turbo, boost, engine work etc.

Directfreak, we need to meet up sometime, im in Florida! I want to check out your car and ask you a few questions. I have an fb again, sold the TII. Its a 12a bridgeport for now, but I am going to swap a 13bt or re in there. Anyways, I will take some pics of my brothers car asap. Later,

Jonathan

Hmmm I would think that any old holley would do, aside from the oil injection part. Holley's like an open plenum manifold and on draw through that is what they have essentially. You won't need to prep for boost because the carb doesn't see bost. I think any holley with good tuning on a draw through would be very nice.

I've had big blow through plans for a while now. I am thinking of temporarily going with a draw through setup and selling it later, once I save enough cash for the blow through/ic.

Where can I find a good explanation of how it works?

Whats up Ray? We got the 13b in and running (82 Gsl). We need to tune it up a little bit, but its doing great. If I can get my cam working I'll snap pics of all the first gens and then slap them up. Ill call you about the motor as soon as I get a chance. Later,

Jonathan

We slammed toghther a 12A draw through the other day. We are using the stock Nikki and have run it up to 3 lbs.

It is dead stock carb and appears to provide pleanty of fuel (so far). i'll let you know at what point it runs lean.

Very little carb mods are needed with a blow through.

We welded a stock turboII manifold to a 12A flange. Seems to work ok with a 20% power increase I would guess.

As soon as my dyno is back we'll hook it up and find out.

There were a few kits made for the 12a's, but they have become rare and hard to find in good conditions.
