Do I need a filter and what kind do I need?

Hey I just got my FB and I was looking at the webber carb and I was thinking to myself. don't I need some kind of filter? I can't find an air filter anywhere bt I don't know much about carbed cars so you guys tell me. It's got an RB intake manifold and header (I don't know which one but it has a flange at 2 pipes then has an extra piece bolted on for 2 into 1 then some pipe I can't identify looks to just be a straight pipe, no mufflers and a cat) It's an 83 GSL with a 13B swap. Also, anything that stands out as something I should look at, notify me of. Thanks.

Engine bay:

Carb (this is where I'm thinking I need some kind of filter)

13B baby!

Can someone tlel me what this is? There two of them on each side of some blockoff plate on the LIM

Just for freference of the other side of the block:

Shiny silver pipe......... what is it? ( I know it is an exhaust pipe, just wondering if this is a nice piece)

PO said this was an RB header, is this any good?

Thanks all.

Also one REEEEALLY small random question. Is this a good setup? I got it from a guy who races rotary cars and this was a project he got bored with. How much WHP would this be putting down? 115 ish maybe?

K&N filter, Uni, RamFlo...

It looks like you have half the K&N cannister that goes with that carb, all you need is the top pan and filter element.

Mazdtrix, Top-End Performance, etc.

Oh thanks, that makes a lot of sense I forgot about the 6th ports coming from a 4 port motor. I will look into a filter next time I'm near an auto parts store. Ok. Lastly, what about this setup? Does it seem fairly good? The car pulls about has hard as the TII did (power to weight ratio and all)

I would just zip tie two plastic scouring pads over the air horns for the mean time. You have the bottom lid, but you're missing the filter and top lid. You need something that looks like this.

And yes, that is a quality intake and exhaust set up.

I've got a K&N on mine.

You say it's got no mufflers and just a cat? Isn't that unbearably loud?

Here's a pic of mine installed:

A pair of these were on the carb when I got it:

Not much of a filter, is it? They're basically just there to keep bits of gravel out.

I like the lugnut blocking the heater hose and the 12a beehive. Maybe think about getting a proper lower rad hose that won't kink like that one on it is.

I meant no cats and a muffler haha!

Okay, couldn't find a filter @ autozone today, and the one online doesn't have a top plate with it, so I don't know what to do. I may get ome cheapo sock filters and ziptie them on.

Okay guys, one more question. I can't tell if my oil pressure gauge is broken, or if I'm not getting oil pressure (that would SUCK!). I know that the oil system does 20 to 30% of the cooling of the block, and my temp gauge never goes above 1/4th above C so I run really cool (hoping this is a good sign of a cold block and good oil flow). I just changed the oil today, but the gauge has read a hairline above 0 since I got the car. The gauge aso wiggles left a right a millimeter or so after start up and during throttle, so it might just be iffy contacts. Is there any way I can find out my oil is pumping without the gauge reading correctly? The car drives fine if it's any consultation. I just don't want to take off the front plate to get to the pump(I don't even know how).

The stock oil pressure and water temp gauges in these cars kinda suck. All the ones I've seen, at least. My oil pressure gauge never used to read above 60 PSI, and my water temp only goes to about 1/4, like yours. I didn't even bother hooking the oil pressure gauge back up when I swapped the 13B in. I just got a cheap set of Sunpro gauges that work far better. I kept the stock water temp around, since it was at least consistent, and I used the Sunpro temp gauge for oil temp. I'll probably pick up a nice mechanical water temp gauge one of these days.

That makes me feel much better. I'd rather it be the gauge not reading correclty than me actually having a problem under the hood. I need ot pick up some extra gauges it seems. I've got no radio, what a perfect mounting spot! haha.

PO told me it was a Webber, but I have seen the dellorto text stamped on it, so I was confused. Is it a good/okay carb?

It's an excellent carb. Probably the best two-barrel for these cars.

You'll be fine for awhile without one. My buddy had his sidedraft Mikuni 44 on his car for 3 years without one. Now its on my car, been driving with it for almost a year. Ya, It's risky though. Just don't got cash to pay 80 f'n dollars to get one of those lol.

try Racing Beat or Mazdatrix. If they don't have the top and filter for it try CB Performance, they were the importer in the US for DellOrto for a long time and still sell parts for them.
