Do I need a catalytic converter with the air tube?
So, it'll be time for a new catalytic converter. I found one online for a really nice price, and the picture shows it with an air tube. And, yes, I did get under the vehicle and noticed a vacuum line running from it to verify. However, Summit has a direct fit converter for my car but does not offer the air tube. I'm sure this air tube is for the 6-port actuation deal, so I need to make sure that I need to purchase a catalytic with the air tube on it.

You will also need the air tube for the 5/6 port operation. Have you looked at the Bonez cats?

$245 + gasket set, I believe. It replaces the 3 cats with a single cat. I am not sure how that works with the visual inspection, but I am sure it would be fine. The nice thing is it is bolt-in, so you don't have to go to a muffler shop to have installed.
Good luck.

Yes, you need to pass emissions (except in one county where they don't have emiss. requirements). And I'm not rich, I can only afford so much. The one with the picture of an air tube is only $81. I'm just wanting to replace the stock cat right now. Hopefully, after coating the bolts with PB Blaster for a few days, the bolts may come out easier. More than likely, that's the original cat on the damn thing.

where are you in Va? all the counties around me only have a visual inspection that you have an exhaust that runs behind the cabin. alot of people i know that live in nova have their cars registered in h-burg so they don't have to pass a sniffer

i got one from performancepeddler i think that's what its called.....its from a partner compnay of magnaflow("carsoundinc").................however, my 12a turned it purple in like a minute and a half......i have headers tho it did have the proper air tube, but i had to bend it a little(or a lot i guess)....bonez would be much better to go with..........go into first gen for sale section, a guy was trying to sell his bonez cat but no one would buy it just search it and then pm him, those are our best bet i think(they are supposed to be tough), if you have headers you will have to go to a shop to weld it in or make diff. brackets to fit

And, FCKing, no, it won't hurt, but it will make it REALLY loud. Hope you have ear plugs.

Just to clarify.....
Yes,you MUST have the large air tube that feeds to the center of the catylitic convertor. Its not for the 6 port actuators....it feeds air from the smog pump, into the cat so that the cat can process the smog in your exhaust.Without that tube and the smog pump,ACV and rats nest, the cat would self destruct and/or melt down in short order.
Also, the extreme heat and high HC output of the rotary makes many generic cats fail well before their time. That is partly why so many people (myself included) recommend the Bonez cats. They might cost more, but they are made for rotaries and WILL hold up.Ive got 4 years and almost 40K on mine and it still smogs in CA with no issues and thats with a streetport/turbo TII setup. In the long run,its more economical......
The smaller, thin tube upstream of the cat, hooks up to the 6 port actuators and is neccesary for proper topend power. If you leave it unhooked, the car will still run,but youll lose some HP at full throttle.

Hey I have an exhaust leak somewhere in one of the cats (haha, maybe more?) and I was looking at the bonez cats as suggested above. I have a 12A GS, would the first cat option (2nd picture) be the one to go with if I was looking to replace all the stock cats? If so, should I also purchase the bolts and gaskets for 15 bucks at the bottom? Or are those just for the last cat? I should also mention that I don't have any emissions testing here.
