I would looooove to experiment with a renesis, but at this point they are too damn expensive to buy.

I've just been having a bad experience with my first carb'ed car, and it is putting a bad image of carbs in my head. I see problems with carbs all too often. FI, on the other hand is almost problem free. Generally the only problems are in either the ignition system or fuel pump (both of which I have no problem working with). But the main thing is that I HAVE to have a reliable car for college. I planed on doing an S5 engine swap after college, but if my car is going to be off the road due to a seriously malfunctioning carb, I figure why not do it now.

I drove my car for a week and now I have to take it off the road again. It just won't run right. I don't think rx7carl can even figure it out (the person I have been talking to about it). The problems just don't make any sense at all. It seems to defy physics.

The ONLY reason it makes the power it does (from the factory about the same as a mildly modded FC N/A) is because the side exhausts have a different noise characteristic so they were able to run a freer-flowing exhaust and still have a quiet car. Then they jacked the port timing waaaay out there, but because there's negative overlap, the intake closing events are really late, causing somewhat poor low-RPM power. It makes power high up, in other words, because it can't make it down low, like you can with a peripheral exhaust, or better yet peripheral intake and exhaust.
