DLIDFIS timing settings

I'm gonna be doing the DLIDFIS mod to my car and was wondering what timing settings i should use. i have seen the 24/16 is the reccommended setting for a 12a, but have also seen some write-ups that said it may be excessive. what advance is everyone running with this ignition setup. thanks

I have it about 10 degrees advanced from the stock marks, at idle. I have also vacuum and mechanical advance operating.

mechanical, or more properly, centrifugal advance is 12.5 at 1031.5 engine rpm for a 12A, per the FSM. Vacuum advance is 4.5 degrees for leading, 15 degrees for trailing max, at 200 and 370 mmHg, respectively.

No I don't know where fs ull advance iat for my engine. It's probably in the high +20 / low +30 degrees from the stock mark.

Interesting to see how you have advanced it. Considering the stokc mark for idle on the 12A, is 0 degrees. Means your running 10 BTDC at idle.

The 13B calls for stock timing of 5ATDC at idle for the leading. I too advanced it 10 degerees so now I am 5BTDC at idle. Ive found the motor to be MUCH more torquey. Crad have you noticed any ill effects from going to 10BTDC on your motor? I'm really thinking about trying it.

No ill effects at all, but I'll give my usual disclaimer: do what I do at your own risk

One thing I think it helps at high rpms is the fact that I'm running a tad rich (shutup Dennis, ok more than a tad) and that I think helps prevent detonation.

Also remember, my engine is streetported. In my sig it says RB size, but it's actually slightly bigger than the RB template.

Oh and I said about 10 degrees because I have no dial timing light. I just go by the rule of thumb 1 mm = 1 degree. So it's roughly 1 cm from the timing mark = 10 degrees. Could be a little less. Definitely not more.

famous last words lol...

Seriously though, it shouldn't damage anything. If you hear a sound similar to rocks in the drier, stop though

so what would this equate to at total advance? i have read that this is the best point to set timing at (4000 rpms, disconnected vacuum lines)

well, after doing some more research,i think i'm gonna go with the 24/16 total advance and see how it works.

Adjusting it for max power and performance would make it so it has better gas mileage. For example, if too retarded, unburned fuel would go to the exhaust and never make power, plus heat the exahust up.
