distributor question.
Okay.
I just recently got my rx back from a jerkhole machanic wo roally screwed me over. Darn thing wont start. He did put a new carb on it but for some reason I think that might not be the problem. I looked at it and it does have a few vacume hoses that are disconnected but after searching here I have found that these are more than likely not the problem.
One day when I walked into his shop I noticed that the distributor was off. Heres he question I am actually refering to a differnt model of manual but it looks like the exact same thing. THis is the manual
http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/manuals/19...Electrical.pdf
My question is this.
If I line up the first timing mark to the pin and move the protusion of the signal rotor to the core of the pickup coil like it shows on the instal diagram then remove the rotor from the engine housing will the taly marks of the disributor housing and drive gear line up if the distributor was installed correctly?
I certianly hope that someone here understands what I am talking about.

I guess
I guess you would have to check the manual. Im just wondering if I follow the install procedures for lining everything up when I am removing the dizzy will the marks for the gear and the housing line up when the dizzy is removed as a way to tell if it was installed right in the first place.

If you align the yellow dot on the pulley (I believe yellow is leading, double check) with the indicator pin on the front cover, you should be able to pull the dizzy out and have the dot and slot on the dizzy gear and shaft lined up. If it is off by 90/180/270* then someone has taken off the pulley before and did not align it correctly.

Okay good deal Id go out and do it right now but its pitch black, well the streetlights are reflecting off the snow and its for sure below zero out there.
Wanted to do the carb today but I was positive Id be breaking my old vacume lines in the cold.
I dont think he pulled the pulley off the front of the engine (the one with the timing marks) I just think he did not follow this procedure when installing the dizzy. This guy said he knew mazdas and it ended up at another guys shop for the carb install. He lied to me and couldnt answer simple questions about the motor itself. I know the thing was off the car.
Now for another question if your still around. Will the thing run if this is installed incorrectly. It did run for a little bit, but with no power and it certianly sounded like more of a chainsaw than usal. Then it just quit running.

Id love to but at the moment I am unemployed. Used to deliver pizzas no car no job.
I certianly hope this is it. No parts fix, unless that is running it like that would cause damage.
So I guess what I am going to do is skip the day labor tommorow and pull that sucker off and check it. Only problem is I dont have a timing light to do the actual timing, but I figure if I can at least get it running Ill know that was the deal.
If you havent guessed by now im not that experenced so here is another one for ya. If it is installed incorrectly the dizzy will still delver a spark just at the wrong time. So I should probally pull out the plugs and check for fouling if it is wrong, right?

You should be good to go with just dropping it in and bolting the dizzy down so it is centered in the slot (redneck style, close enough until you get/borrow a timing light). MAKE SURE you don't skip a tooth! I usually have the rotor button on, and hold on to that as well as the dizzy body when I slide it in. If it is giving you some trouble twist the shaft very very slightly counter clockwise and it should rotate in. The rotor will twist in a clockwise direction as it meshes with the gear on the Eshaft.
What pizza place did you work at? I used to be with Papa Johns back when I was around 15 or so. Also unemployed as well. It is interesting, you never know what free mod's you can do until you are broke Mechanical secondaries??

its a local joint here Blackjack Pizza.
Its freezing outsidide and I gotta work out there on it, and its probally going to be snowing tommorow too. No time for any extra work.
Yea I was looking at the gear is got a bit of a twist to it. Will it turn when I line it up? If I hold the rotor shaft you say it wont?

I think I see what your saying. line it all up then turn it a little bit rest it on the gear and turn it back to where the line was and hope it falls in to place in line. (more or less)

Ya know I just thought of something. If I line up the yellow timing mark If I pull of the rotor cap and protusion of the signal rotor is pointing to the core of the pickup coil like it shows on the instal diagram then There is no reason to pull the dizzy because its lined up correctly right?
