Unhappy Distributor Clicking?

I posted a week or so ago about an annoying metallic clicking noise on my 12a. Took your advice and loosened belts one at a time, and even swapped out the alternator due to a charging problem. The clicking doesn't seem to be coming from any belts, or anything belt driven.

I really think it is coming from the distributor. When I take of the cap, I can twist the rotor back and forth and I hear the same kind of metallic clicking. (it will rotate about 1/4 inch in each direction) This is pretty loud when the engine revs up, and the rythm really seems to match what would be going on in the distributor.

So... has anyone else had an issue like this? I'm not sure if I trust my mechanics skills to get much deeper than pulling off the cap. Are these fairly easy to take out and tinker with?

The car runs awesome, but just clicks ??

Maybe I just need to make a sacrafice to the Rx7 gods. Maybe like a burnt Honda offering of some sort.

Well burning the honda cant hurt. But seriously the movement your seeing in the dizzy rotor is the advance. Thats not the cause of your clicking. Maybe your rotor is contacting the cap slightly? Look inside the dizzy cap for any evidence of contact.
