door seals?

just bought another parts car for the alarm and wheels, and noticed that the driver's side door seal is in almost perfect condition. Whereas mine is shot all to hell. i was just wondering if there is a way to exchange them without damaging them... no big deal, but was just curious.

thanks, jeff

Hey Jeff,
The door seals are attached with these little plastic pins which fit into holes in the door. You should be able to remove the seal by carefully removing the pins. They break pretty easily, so remove the bad seal first and get the "learning curve" out of the way. Good luck, buddy!

i got a pair of door seals from ebay for $50 or something like that, good deal IMO. Especially because my car has NO door seals on it at all.

The ebay ones work well. I just installed them last week. My only concern is that they sealed too well for the first few days. Closing my door was a challenge.

I went to a mazda parts place and spend $A200 on door and window seals. Passenger and drivers. My G/F still has trouble closing the pass door LOL. I thought they would make the door close a little smoother and less of a crash that old cars have... didnt seem to do much tho. Any suggestions???

the 'crash' is from lack of heavy sound deadening inside the door. New weatherstripping helps considerably to reduce wind noise, but you have to add useless weight if you want that modern-car, vaultlike 'thump'

You can adjust the strikers also, so it will make the door easier to close.

Ding! You are correct!

I've been meaning to get some of those door seals from eBay. I think they are sold by A-1 restoration or something like that. Good to hear some positive feedback about them, that helps with my decision.

I still recommend the factory ones - they're not very much more, and the Mazda ones I installed seemed to fit better than the A-1 seals Matt installed around the same time.

Has anyone tried the ones in the VB catalogue?

I don't think mine are bad enough to need it yet. The driver's door seal is chipped a bit, but the passenger's door seal is damn near new.

Anyone know where I can get some good door hinges? It's something I found written on a mechanic's work recipt from long ago "suggested replacement door hinge in near future".... it's noisy but seems to work no prob.

Jon

VB also sells the mazda originals. I just purchased a pair. I have yet to drive the car with the new seals, but they fit perfectly. VB sells them for $39.95 a piece.

Try Ralph Hatley at almanden mazda. Factory parts at a great discount. I paid $55 A PIECE for my seals, and one self destructed in a month. Go figure.
