distributer cog

ok i was reading my manual putting the oil pump drive and distributer drive cog back on the eccentric shaft...my problem is the factory manual says to put the side with the "F" on it facing outwards but wouldnt you know it my cog doesnt have an "F" no no that would be much to convenient. i looked at the threading and it didnt seem to make a difference. i took a guess and put it on with the side that looked worn smooth facing inwards in contact with the oil pump drive cog...the wear on the one side is my justification for this...anyone know if it makes a difference? if so how should i determine which side to face outwards? thanks for any advice...

The 'F' is on the distributor gear on the bottom of the dizzy itself, not on the eccentric gear. You're doing ok.

I'm not sure what Jeff is saying, but the dizzy drive gear - the one that slides onto the eccentric shaft - can face either direction. Mazda stopped marking the Front side for some reason a long time ago.

Oh ok. I've got two from various years that I could look at. I'll see if any of them have a mark on them. I've also seen an F on the bottom of the dizzy shaft gears.
