no offense but you just threw your whole argument out the window with this one, if it is the intake runners affecting tourqe and not the actuall carb then as stated it's not the carbs.

don't forget that dcoe carbs don't need wrap around runners to work - look at the lake cities manifold, technically that should give a higher hp than an ida setup.

Don't forget the nice TWM intake either. Both Lake Cities and TWM came straight off the side of the rotary. Short intake runners, little torque gain but hella high-end horsepower.

i never liked the lake cities manifolds cause your pulling hot air strait off the header. even with a shield **** is still hot.

That is why one needs to build ducting to either pull air from forward of that area, pull air from top of that area (ie duct the hood over that area), or pull air from behind that area (ie windhshield wiper assembly area). With the right combination of shielding and ducting you can get some cool air to it. and I believe the intake (not the carbs of course) would get no hotter than the OEM intake since it takes up about the same amount of exposed surface area to the exhaust manifold. IIRC some people were still report icing on the intake!

do you really think that ducting is better than free air? I tried the the IDA dual cold air intake from Aussie. It suck!!!! Replaced the hoses to larger ones. It still suck!!!. So I ended up JUNKING THAT POS COLD AIR INTAKE.

What you can do is make a plenum which is larger than the air cleaner, then run ducts from the front. However, due to limited space between the straight-thru carb and the passenger side strut housing, you will need to smoke some weed to be real creative.

I haven't seen the intake you are referring to, but here is one I did for my old Peripheral Port 13B race car with a 51 IDA. Not pretty, but it did the job.

There was more square filter area, so less restriction, plus the cone filters were in a good spot. Not only did it make better power, but quieted the engine noise by nearly 50%.

Sorry to get back off topic again, but I figure that anybody who's thought about trying to drift on public roads should watch this first

Your mind is on the right track, but you're wrong. DCO and DCOE's don't need to be boost preped as long as the boost stays below 5psi. And the only thing that is different with boost preping an IDA is that the brass floats tend to crush above 8psi. so you might want to change those...

yeah how do you boost prep the dcoe's? I have looked here and all over the net and cannot find a thing. Nothing of a real "how to" guide at all. The holleys you can find them all day long.

We got it from aussie but cant remember the site and I cant locate our pix. I agree, it was so quiet that we cant even hear the throaty IDA; however, as I mentioned, I noticed a loss in power. During earlier Sevenstock, I saw a P-Port with similar set up as yours except the top open. I have been wanting to make a similar plenum except I cant find the time and when I have the time, I always forget.
