disadvantages to sidedraft, and what is oer

hey like the title says im lookin to find out what advantages/disadvantages there are to the sidedraft style carbs,
and what is the oer carberator, i think its stands for something like original equipment replica/replacement? i think they are designed to be like the webber sidedraft 48, but cheaper not sure though....just wondering would it be alot better to spend the money on a real webber? anyone with personal experience please comment on your thoughts...
thanks

In my opinion, the real Webers are better than the knock-offs (e.g. Mikuni, Delorto). Sidedrafts (DCO) are okay, but I prefer the downdrafts (IDA) because the float bowls are better.

Aint it like DCO's will give you a little more torque for street use while IDA's net more horses for running the track.

Something like that.... I think. Also sidedrafts don't have to be prepped for boost. So if you're going turbo you're better off with sidedraft unless you don't mind having to boost prep and try to get metal floats that won't be crushed and so on. I'd rather have my sidedraft.

No. That is incorrect.

Where are you getting your info? Every thread I've ever seen about sidedrafts has said so. The longer runners on the sidedraft intake give better torque but don't give as much high end power as the downdrafts. I may be wrong about nto having to boost prep, but I'm fairly sure of my info. Plus you just saying "Where the hell..." doesn't make me want to believe you or respect you.

just 'words of advice'

you don't have to believe everything you see on the threads here on the forum. personal experiences and in-person observation as opposed to online info will almost guarantee better information.

If your interested I have a 55 DCO "Sidedraft" and a 48 IDA "Downdraft" I'll be putting up for sale. The IDA is the best carb I have ever used good bottom end, midrange and awesome top end. Fairly easy to work on and a very simple design that just works great on Mazda Rotary powered vehicle. As for the DCO it is a much larger throttle bore so you can make more horsepower. At this time the IDA's are cheaper because there are plenty of them available and the DCO's are in high demand so the cost will be higher.

i am looking for a daily/drift/street race type car...i like to drive fast and "race" other cars on the street but i also love driving the touge and drifting around those nice smooth curves, and ive heard that some carbs end up not being able to pull enough air????<--not sure!! also im looking for a carb that will work nice on a later turbo setup........

Man I say it for your own good. I live at the bottom of a mountain where two canyons converge and it's getting real repetitive hearing emergency service vehicles going up the canyons pulling someone out of river or like last week scraping some inoccent motorcycle riders of the pavement because some kids thought they could "drift" down the mountain and ended up in the same lane as the riders.
