Can you give a more complete description of what you did? Were you following jeff20B's writeup? Someone else's? There's a nice thread running lately that made it real clear to me how this needs to be done.

It really depends on how much you have to spend.

ok i got some cash to spend... i had 2 coils basically running off of one igniter. so im thinking half power right since it was a bridgebetween the 2 leading coils. the trailing was running fine. i was told that u can do direct fire up grade and need to wire up a seperat coil for each leading and the trailing is to be left alone. i disabled the extra notches on th e dis cap. so i only had the main leading and L1 n L2 firing from there. then i bridged the 2 stock oem coils together and fed each one to a leading. trailing was set up through the leading and L1 n L2. it started up but i didnt feel any honest power. i know i had lost some power lol. thats basically it. do i need 2 ignitiors one for each coil or how does it work????

Did you wire the leading coils in series or parallel?

One ignitor per coil is what you need.

ok try to understand my crappy description lol

wires from leading ignitor plug into normal ignition coil ok, just like normal. now take another coil add a posi and neg wire to the first coil and attach it to the new coil. now plugem in to each leading. i think its half the amps and power even with MSD wires for the hook up. ill be using 3 msd blaster 2 for more power and msd wires that r long enuff to work. i love ur direct fire idea and now im gonna cap on it.

I did the FC coil direct fire mod. Works like a charm. Here is the writeup someone did:

I never wrote an assembly guide with pictures because I never had a 1st gen to try it out on, or a digital camera back then.

It sounds like you're trying to hook up two coils to a single ignitor in parallel. I tried that once and nearly killed my ignitor. The I hooked both coils in parallel which worked ok for low RPM, but higher RPM was weak because the voltage was cut in half.

Like I said above, one ignitor per coil. Of course you're welcome to experiment.

It's on your shoulders if your ignitor burns out while experimenting. All I'm doing is offering free advice on the internet and have stated many times that I do not own an RX-7, nor have a I ever messed with the ignition system on one. Why do I hang out in the 1st gen section then? Because my older rotaries have all been retrofitted with 1st gen parts.

Good luck and don't fry anything!
