Digging Threw the rats nest

Hey yall, I was just told to that the reason for the excessive (more than the normal) BackFiring and or popping sound from my engine compartment is probably the shutter valve/Silinoid could anyone post a picture of which valve is the shutter valve and how i could fix it besides removing the rasts nest cause it seems too difficult for a 16 year old ME!! to do I'd try but I need a very detail Instruction
Thanks
-Nate

Its actually very easy to remove the rats nest when you break apart the actual instructions. I could prolly do it in about 15 minutes, minus taking the wire harness apart and stripping out the worthless wires. But, if you really want to fix the shutter valve, make sure that there isnt a vaccum leak from the bottom of the carb. It should be the largest vaccum port on the driver hand side. Its about 3/8's big, the hose runs to the pod, make sure theres no leaks to start. I just removed mine. Alot better for performance anyways.

Yeah, Really thanks I'd appreciate it if you could help me out...Yea the rats nest is quite intimidating, but how would I check to see if the carb has the vacum leak mentioned below, and yea I'd love some help on removing the nest if you could PM me or just post here a website or whatever that could tell me step by step maybe with some pics on how to remove the rest on my 1983 '7' base model, and list the supplies that are neccissary!

thanks,
-Nate

Check in the FAQ. There is a link to Mazspeed I think with a great writeup. I was a bit apprehensive, but afterwards, about 30 mins being my first time, I would like to see again how long it would take now. Where is wellington by the way? I am in Brunswick, GA, about an hour north of Jax.

I live right near you (West Palm). If you need help, send me a PM. I have the same exact car, and I just did this, lol.

When I removed the shutter valve I plugged the hole with steel putty, and sanded it down with a dremel. My car did backfire excessively before, but after I got rid of everything it pretty much stopped. I basically got rid of everything emissions related.
