Which year and model differentials will bolt into my 85 gsl se with no mods? I've found a ton if info here about gear ratios ect. But can't seem to find this.
Thanks guys.

any from an fb will "bolt in", but since the s3(84-85) has the big axles, that's the yrs u'll have to use. it's also limited slip so unless u go with non LSD, u can use either from a gsl or gsl-se. not sure if there's a difference in the ratios between the two tho.

A Kia Sportage front differential will also bolt in, but it will be open unless you swap the limited slip from your existing housing…………..

We are now assuming that the junk yard sent us the wrong rear end.we are getting another. We ordered a front differential for a kia sportage 4x4.i assume all years are the same.

I searched the fb archives and found 5 or 6 threads on an se rear end. A great swap chart for all rx7's, a toyota swap, and ring and pinion kia swaps. Can't seem to find the kia differential swap threads though.
Can someone help me out?

Ya but his mechanic is probably just that, a mechanic, if it isn't made specifically for the vehicle, he won't put it on due to safety issues, most mechanics won't take that risk

I agree. But this guy is a self-employed buddy of mine and he has no problem with the swap

If I recall right, it isn't any sportage front diff that fits but a 90's model, something like 94-99

EDIT: After some searching (because I was curious myself) it is the front diff from a 95-97 sportage that fits because those are 26 spline (like the late 83-85 "big axle"), and 98-05 sportages have 28 spline axles. This might be your problem.

That would explain it. Since the answer that I got didn't say that it had to be a specific year.we assumed any year would bolt up.

I edited my post, that was the info I gathered from these threads:

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-arch...pinion-507123/

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-arch...s-pics-667307/

Good luck man! I had some diff issues myself back when I swapped to an 83 gsl rear end and I was convinced it was small axle, turns out it was a late 83 big axle. Much confusion was had until I figured that out.
