Unhappy did i just pop an apex seal?

i have been noticing a bit of midrange hesitation over the past week and today it decided to do something drastic.
i was in 3rd doing about 65kph, the all of a sudden it didnt have the power to maintain the speed and began bogging and slowing .
i pushed the clutch in to try and rev it to see if it would and the second the clutch went in it died immidately.
i tried to pop the clutch in 2nd at 40kph but all it did was lock up the rears.
i coasted it into my buddies driveway a few blocks from my house and sat there swearing at it for 5 mins.
i tried to fire it up but it wont start anymore the starter is behaving normal but it just wont fire up.

the engine is a very well maintained factory purchace with 45000km on it so im hoping it isnt blown.

any suggestions???
thanks

Yeah, check the filter. Its amazing how bad those can affect the performance .

definatly check for fuel and spark at the coils. what year is the car? if its a 84-85 model and the trailing igniter goes out, the fuel pump will stop too!

As 680 said.. Check for fuel and spark... My previous car's and a alternator cable come loose. When the battery ran flat while I was driving the engine died... Before that I was getting missfires as the battery lost it's charge.

I don't know if it applies to you as it sounds like you've got power. Is it making it to the plugs? Are you getting fuel to the carb?

Good luck :-)

For real? Even on a carbed engine? Well damn.. I thought it shoulda ran on just leading... That solves things.

Check to see if your engine fell out. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I hear it can be pretty bad for performance when it does.

if you pop an apex you'll know it, it wont run for ****, all the way to the floor = 30 mph, and thats if you can get the car to start

the fact that the rear tires juist locked up when you put it in 2nd says you hve compression, and most likely didnt blow an apex seal..

update

i took out the pugs and aired out the engine, it was severely flooded.
its runnung now, but it has the has a constant miss that sounds really nasty and shakes the car like a massage chair. It can rev up now but its very laboured and slow to act, and its barfing out massive clouds of bright blue oil smoke now...

hopefully its gonna be something easy I overlooked

thanks for the suggestions

check for spark in all your plugs..

once i had a lead (or two) come off the plugs and the car run like a sack'o'****. (as it would)

and the first thing that came into my head was "**** IV'E DONT AN APEX SEAL!!!"

Sounds like the plugs are fouling out due to worn oil control rings. If you have spark and the right amount of fuel and new plugs dont help its most likely a A.seal!. Either way it sounds like its time for a rebuild!.

I hate to say that too, but it sortta sounds like a corner seal or a side seal. You really need a compression test

havn't solved it yet, but got useful info

DO NOT BUY RACTIVE 9mm Plugwires which are supposedly for a 12A. I pulled them at the cap end and the whole plactic shaft on the cap fell to dust for all 4 plugs.... the housing on the end of the wires doesnt fit properly and don't make proper contact. They must be arcing and frying the hell out of the cap.

Unfortunatly that wasnt the problem with my car, but i just thought that info may be useful.

thanks
