The 13B engine was the primary reason for putting "SE" after GSL.(Special Edition)
All SE's had 13B 6 port EFI engines, special wheels and brakes, and were fully loaded from the factory. There was no auto trans and the only options were leather and power steering.(I think)

All 1984 and '85 GSL-SEs came stock with a fuel-injected 13B--- but not the same 13B as in the '86 and later models.
The 13B in the GSL-SE was similar to the 12A in that the grooves for the water jacket seals were machined into the (aluminum) rotor housings rather than the side housings.
All '86 and later 13Bs (except for the RX8 Renesis engine) had these grooves machined into the (cast iron) side housings--- not as desireable because it limits the amount of material that can be removed from the side housings when re-machining and re-nitriding them.

All but one GSL-SE's came with 13B... Yep, one didn't get a 13B but a 12A turbo! No kidding, that's not a conversion, but a genuine Mazda build GSL-SE 12AT!
It was build as a gift for Felix Wankel, and is the sole LHD 12AT (apart from later conversions, of course
