Death of the high-end power

Hello everyone!
84 S model, 12A, Nikki Carb, No Emissions. I have been through fuel system HELL with my rx7, now I've moved into fuel system purgatory I've got her running pretty well for my daily commute however I still have a couple of problems. Hard to start, especially with the choke on, but then needs the choke on to keep running cold.
Also, the part that really bothers me: whenever I get on it for a bit or go up one of pittsburghs many huge steep hills, she starts bogging down, not resonding to throttle, and will eventually die. Returning to idle for a little bit seems to bring her back to life.
I'm at a loss on this one though..

Check fuel delivery.

Do the pressure and flow test. Make sure your getting the minimum pressure
needed for you carb by using a good guage taped to your windshield and watching
it. Also just pull the fuel line at the carb and make sure it pumps, say 1/2 gallon in
less than a minute.

Also make sure you have a new clean fuel filter installed. If the flow is down or the
pressure doesn't maintain under load you either have a bad fuel pump or bad
power to the fuel pump.

If it's a 25 year old fuel pump replace it. Run it in the drive way with air filt top off. See if it is dumping too much gas cause floats a sticking

Let us see pics of the carb with the filter canister removed. Specifically, I want to see the accelerator linkage and choke area.

You said you went through fuel system hell, what all did you fix with that?

I've dropped the tank and flushed it, replaced all rubber lines, blew out the metal lines with an air compressor, replaced fuel pump, rebuilt carb, replaced fuel filter, took the carb apart several times to clean it and make sure nothing else was wrong.

I would double check all the linkage, especially related to the choke. After rebuilding my carb, I was having trouble getting it to cold start and cold idle. I finally realized I didn't have the thermo spring attached to the choke properly. I also had a small piece of metal that was bent and didn't allow the butterflies to close completely. It's hard to explain and easy to miss. If you take a couple pics of the linkage from the passenger side point of view, I can tell you if it is bent or not.

Or if you want to drive up to Clevleand, I can help you troubleshoot it.

Don't nikkis have a restrictor in the return line?

If its missing the carb will never see enough pressure and give you these
symptoms.

@Cshaw: The gunk in my clear filter is now very little in quantity. That clear filter came with her when I got her.

The restrictor in the return line is still there and hooked up the correct way. If it is in the linkage, that should be solved soon, I'm getting another carb.

I have an aftermarket pump and I think the lines might be getting kinked beneath the car. I'm gonna check that out tonight.
