Dash illumination

Hello all. I hate to plague you with such an amature question, but I want asurance. Today when driving, my dashboard illumination went out. When I made it to my final destination, the headlights would turn on and off, but would not go back down. This leads me to belive that the middle fusable link is burnt out. Am I correct?

I also have a more pressing issue. My choke *** fell off. How do I put it back on?

Thanks in advanced Ted.

If your middle fuseable link was burnt out the car wouldn't crank, no lights nothing.....sounds like the dimmer switch or the wiring under the console is bad.

Could be the fuse. Do the marker lights work? I had the exact same symptoms when the tail light fuse blew.

Yes. Check the tail/illumination fuse.

I have the same problem with my 84 GSL. What it is the fuse in the fuse box is lose or blown. Check it and/or replace it.

The choke **** is held in place by a small screw on the bottom of it. It screws up into the metal choke rod. The screw probably just fell out or backed out enough that the **** came off when it was pulled. You might have to pull the rod out a little bit with a pair of vice grips (clamp onto the rod near the dash panel) in order to line the screw up with the hole. At least thats how it is on my 82 and 83.

I take it back. I thought I solved the problem, but the dash illumination still does not work. I am relativly sure I am not getting ground, so I am wondering whare is the ground for teh dash illumination control?

Sorry to bring it back up thanks in advanced, Ted.
