Oh no, trust me, an RX-7 lasts about two years of Ohio winters. This is with prime Southern cars.

I think the emissions comment make the most sense for why the beehive came into being.

I still think FMOC are better but can see the issue in rally cross your trying to solve.

Don't get me started on clutch fans.

Thinking about it further, trying to engineer a thermostat for the system would be too much of a pain in the tail, so I'll just leave that particular problem alone. I have enough fires that need to be put out without going off and lighting new ones.

Plus, I realized that I scrapped all of my beehives a while back. Had a box of seven or eight of them. OTOH, I have five FC oil coolers instead.
