Damn you 4th gear!

First off I have an this might be in the wrong section being that I have an S4 N/A 13B and tranny.

Here's the problem it hardly ever will let me go into 4th when I downshift from 5th, I usually have to leave it in neutral and "pump" the clutch a couple times before it'll go in, won't go into 3rd either. Also it happens with reverse, but if I shift into 1st and immediately shift into reverse, it'll go in just fine. Any idea what could cause this? Oh I'm also unsure of the mileage of the tranny, it's some where around 140k.
thanks.

if u have to "pump" the pedal to get it to shift into gear, then u have either the master or slave cylinder going bad. try bleeding the system to see if there's air in it.

Sounds like an older car where you had to double-clutch on the down shift so that it would synch-up. The clutch bearing may be bad.

That's what I thought at first, but every other gear is fine.

Your issues are symptomatic. Look up and "try" the clutch pedal adjustment this effort is free and will only cost some time

You did ask for advice, take it or disbelieve, it's up to you
