Angry This damn thing is killing me t_t

Ok so after days of working on the rear housing on my 12a, while i was putting the bolts on, one of the damn rear gear bolts broke inside... WHAT DO? it doesnt look like it would affect it that much, but at the same time, they put it there for a reason... also taking out the housing again isnt an option, i would mess up all the new seals ive made and the hylomar and blah ablaha abldkghasdklgasgljk;asfgh.:cursi ng:

Happy New Year, man.

it sucks, but unless i'm missing something, it shouldn't be any more complicated than taking the rear gear back off and getting a broken bolt extractor. duct tape the opening to the engine and go to work. getting an exact replacement might suck, too.

my only two concerns are was the bolt cross-threaded and were you over-torquing it?

Neither of those in the matter of fact, my dad allways taught me to screw on the bolt by hand as much as you can, then use the wrench, which is what i did, and i was able to screw it ALL the way by hand, then when i started tightening it, not even with a torch wrench, it broke, so im thinking if i just get a bolt extractor, or make a groove i could possibly just take it out with a flat head.

Sounds like the right plan to me. I would just run the same size thread tap through just to be safe.

Yes, very good idea to ensure the threads are right. But that's if you can get a tap to work in the hole you're working with.

Also, make sure to get the exact replacement bolt - hardness, head size, thread die, and depth to ensure it doesn't throw anything off.

Good luck!

pull stat gear out.. do not turn over engine while it is out.. the head of the broken bolt will be proud and you only need vice grips

You should find that the broken part is loose should be easy to remove like diabolical 1 said unless the threads were screwed and if it went in finger tight it should be loose and not take much effort to remove

ITS OUT!!! k so this is what went down, when the bolt broke, it didnt break evenly, there was like a twist, what i did was, took out the rear gear, put a screw driver at the corner and hammered it lightly. AND IT JUST STARTED TURNING best feeling in the world im not gonna like.. i was tempted to break another one just so i can do that again....
