Angry dammit why is it doing this!

Ok, I finally got to do the brakes with a friend of mine which was a bicth to do, we had never seen this system so it was a first for us both, but we did it right, the car brakes fine and i finally got it rolling.

I drove the car nice and smooth the past few days, not going past 4000 rpm, but as you guys said, you should rev it hard every now and then for the engine's sake. So I did, I revved it to 6500 in third and fourth and when I dropped it down to neutral the rpm's stayed at 2000. I messed around with the accelator cable and they've dropped down to 1500. But they don't seem to go down, they just stay there??? What could it be.

Also, the rat's nest WAS removed from the carb and there seems to be a lot of untapped hoses. There's this one coming from the intake manifold that kinda looks like a faucet and it's just venting into the atmosphere. Also a lot of fuel return lines were capped.

Im gonna post pics soon so you guys can tell me what the hell is missin from my carb.

That's the split air hose connection, suplies air to main cat. No biggy if it's venting into the atmosphere, AFAIK (I assume you don't have cats or they are hollowed out)

have you messed with the dashpot? a sticking dashpot will raise the idle in the same manner you described.
