Starting over with fuel cell.

Starting over with fuel cell.
Dammit, Im pretty sure that Im going to have to restart with my fuel cell project.
The way its set up now, it sits to close to the ground.
not only is this dangerous, but it doesnt look that professional and I think Im going to get to much attention from the Police. Not to mention it makes jacking the back of the car up difficult.
Im going to cut out the tire well and mount the cell up a few inches.
The work doesnt really **** me off, its that I probably have to buy a new fuel cell at $160 since I modded this one. I think I might be able to make this one work.
The filler neck I installed is near the top and will hit the frame. Im going to have to notch the frame for clearance and move the cell to the right, closer to the exhaust.
Ill mount it and then just put a peice of sheetmetal over the hole for the tire and maybe add a door for access to the top fuel door if I need to.
pisses me off, but Ive been worried about that cell and Its a relief to know im going to do it right.
Plus it should look better.

damn, this thread is a year old, I already redid it. and have been driving the car for a while.
I cut out most of the rear deck, at least what was between the frame rails.
BUT... it is still not perfect and im going to try something different.
I just got a new welder and happen to find some huge sheets of metel in our basement.
come spring break Im going to have at it again.

Is that a plastic cell? Doesn't the State of Washington require that fuel for any street legal vehicle be enclosed in a metal container? Even for my race car, if I hadn't gone with a bladder, foam and strong can, I would have stayed with the stock tank. No way I would have run an exposed polycarbonate tank. Did you at least build a metal box around it?
