daily driving
i am 18, i travel approx. 100 miles to school and back everyday. im just curious if im driving too hard (if thats even possible)
ok at what rpm is it the *best* to cruise(im@4000 @80)
and i typically drive 90-110 most of the way.
(true statement)
also in a given week how much is your car floored while accel.?
i almost alwas end up on the floor trying to keep up with the traffic getting and around the traffic on I-45
so, basically how hard do you drive and how hard is too hard?

Sounds like you're driving too hard there, rmayton. I try to keep it at 80, within 10 miles of the speed limit. Gets my 55 mile one way commute done in less than an hour, the Atlanta traffic gods permitting. The way I figure it, when the accelerator is floored, the car is taking a beating, and I have to fix it. Also, you could get killed.

nonsence, high revs are good for the rotary. Nothing wrong with driving it at high rpm. You even burn out alot of the carbon. the only downside is you are going to burn up more gas (DUH) and just make sure you dont overheat or anything. Otherwise you'll be just fine.

just make sure you give it ample time to warm up and cool down. i usually give it about 5-10 minutes warm up in the morning and between 2-5 minutes cool down depending on how hard i drove it.

Actually I attribute the good health of my 7 to high revs. There's nothing better for a 7 than taking in out on the highway twice a day for one hour work outs at 80 mph. Like hornbm says, you gotta burn out the carbon. But if you do it right, you get good gas mileage too, I'm getting 24 mpg right now and working on making it better. Also, I'm trying not to get killed.

Please drive safely I was in a boneyard the other day and saw a FB about folded in half. It had a 19 year old driver (now dead), who was doing 90+ blew a tire and flipped head to toe into a telephone pole. NASTY stuff. Quick question why are you rushing to school? Maybe things have changed since i've been there. Maybe it's really fun now and people can't wait to be in class. I dunno.

its never good to drive fast in any car...but i agree with hornbm that rotary's love high rpms, unlike pistons...i have a gsl-se so i make sure i at least reach 5k rpm on each trip from point a to b so the secondary ports open up and not get stuck after time...

I think as a general rule of thumb you shouldn't hang the motor off the limiter all day, but visiting redline shouldn't be harmful in anyway.
I also have a daily driving question. Is there a rev-limit you should stay above? When I test drove my GSL-SE, the lady told me to stay above 2k. Below 2k, the motor makes nothing so I'd understand if she didn't want me to bog the car. Is it ok (healthy for) to drive the car at lower RPMS? I know the rotary doesn't make much torque, so maybe I need to keep the engine going...
But don't worry about my 13B and the 6-ports, they get PLENTY of exercise.
