Custom Vented Header Panel
Hey Guys,
I'm not sure what i think about this, I added a vent on a spare header panel. I'm not really sure if i like it yet, maybe with a few coats of paint I'll be convinced. It was pretty easy, a little fiberglass, and bondo. I copied the style from an old post a while back.
Thanks, Matt

Hmm, I'm sure when painted it might look unique. Tho, I myself have been thinking of figuring out a style to do to the hood to dissipate heat from the engine bay to allow it to run cooler. I've seen a louver style hood on a race-only FD but I didn't like how it was styled, for my FB's taste that is. FD looked good, but I didn't think it would do well on my FB.
What would be your primary reason to have this extra vent? Cooling, added airflow, or looks?

I just cut a hole out of a stock header pannel, and added some venting behind it with fiberglass, I'm sure it'll improve cooling, the original guy who made the vent did some research and said that there was a hig air pressure area in that area, and that a vent in this location would draw in alot of air. I plan to mount my second gen oil cooler directly behind it.

I like it!
Looks more professional than my "afterthought" header vent.
I might have gone that route if I hadent already bitten off more than I could chew with my custom body mods.I used a pin nibbler to cut me out a quick little nostril for my main oil cooler....

I like it. Its a common mod for the 3rd gen 300Z crowd. I see their vented header panels all the time. So there must be some good airflow where they are placed.
Also, if you look at the SRt-4 concept and the SRT-4 production cars. The concept does not have a header panel intake vent, but the production does. They had some problems drawing in air.

hey, what if you were to mount an air to oil cooler behind the header vent, basically in front of the rad up top, rather than on the bottom where it would normally go. i just looked at my car, and it seems there isn't anything in the way to mount it there.......hmmmmm i kinda like the thought of this

Looks good. Give a little aggressive bite to the otherwise smooth front end. Don't know that it really needs that extra air, but it still looks good.

Yeah the z croud tends to have those vented header panels. The have a pretty cool design. Not one large vent such as yours but many smaller vents.
Loos good. Have any pictures head on?

I made some "spare" louvered panels at work I've often thought of putting there. but not sure of how they would look. Kinda one of those "don't know till you try" deals
