New radiator from radiators.com

Just installed new radiator from radiators.com. $94 shipped to my door. Great deal, but it wasn't the right radiator. I think it's some sort of universal mazda rad. It is a little larger on the bottom because of a built in trans cooler. Pretty sure this could be used as an air to air oil cooler as well?

Either way it as annoying I had to make all new mounting points for my electric fan setup. The factory schroud wouldn't have fit either. Other than that everything bolted in. The radiator cap is also different so I had to go buy one of those. 8.99 at autozone.

Should also be mentioned that I swaped in a 170 thermostat and flushed the rad and engine when I did the rad. swap.

My car runs 1/4 inch past the c on the temp gauge now. Doesn't matter if I'm cruising on the highway at 70 for 30 mins or sitting in traffic on an 80* day. The car use to sit at the middle of the temp gauge all the time. I think this wil help cool the oil with the beehive cooler setup. And just be better in general for the car.

So with all that said if you don't have alot of cash and can fabricate a little, it's a good deal.

I'll post up pic's later.

I have one, and liked it until about 1.5 years into ownership when it sprung a small leak. Having it repaired, should be fine. Never any problems, especially with my twin fan flex a-lite electrics.

Install pics. Shows where I had to cut and bend brackets 90* out to make mounts. Not as pretty as my previous install but very functional.

Fits perfect, but the tabs are folded in as oposed to the older rad where the tabs bend out. I think this maybe the automatic radiator, and I had a manual b4 ?

And tabs were bent out instead of in. And the radiator cap was larger. When I went to the parts store to buy a rad cap.
I gave them my make model etc and they came back with a large cap like the one I had. The new rad had a small rad cap.
I ended up buying a cap for a honda civic that fit.

But thats cool I guess it is an rx-7 rad. Just not the rad on my 85 gs 5 spd.

And just a suggestion but the way you have that fan setup isn't going to cool very well.

You need a schroud. I had the same setup on my TII with that slim line fan.
I ended up getting the factory schroud and pop riviting that fan in it. Worked pretty well.

I've put in a couple from radiators.com with no prob. There was a change in rad cap size sometime in the FB history, maybe it was 83. Anyway, you should order rad caps from mazdatrix. I tried the autostore caps (Stat) and decided they were not good.
