cryogenics, heat-treating and normalizing, Meta-lax stress relieving
Has anyone tried to use any of these method in a 1st gen N/A to strengthen it up? or even treating the small bearing rear axles?

Here is what we know of as far as engines:

Cryo treating is common for gears, transmission internals, brakes, and axles. There are multiple opinions, but cryo treating of the engine internals is not uncommon and definitely done by some people, albeit often for turbo engines. If you want to know about specific cryo treating experience on 12A N/A engines, ask someone who races GT-3, etc. which is (or was) a 12A N/A engine. (Actually the experience should be similar for either NA engine, 12A or 13B, AFAIK.) The rotary performance section of this forum, or the "other" forum would give you better answers.
Here's some quick search results. (There is more info on the "other" forum).
The Falken FD3S we built ran all year on one engine in the drift arena, and finally blew when it hit 46psi of boost after a wastegate nipple broke off during filming at the Fast and Furious 3 set.
It didn't blow until it hit 46psi when detonation finally won the battle. It ran over 30psi most of the season. All on stock Mazda internals that were cryo treated. We also boiled the cooling system completely dry over 6 times and had temps of 150C water, and had no housing or iron problems and the coolant seals were like new when I tore down the now destroyed engine. The whole block was treated.
I am a believer in whatever they are doing
