Cripes! I hit a tree branch!

Cruising at moderate speed down Canada Road in Woodside CA at 9PM suddenly I hit a live oak tree branch across the road when I crested a little hill! Cripes! I fishtailed a small amount and straightened out and pulled over. The guy going the other way called CHP to report the tree branch.

Bent up the rightside headlight housing pretty bad and made a lot of scratches. I wonder if my AAA Comprehensive covers this? Don't have Collision because I don't crash into people and the Blue 83 (my baby) is 20 yrs old and worthless to Insurance Cos.

Does the Ins. co. regard this as a Comprehensive claim?

I think so. I think it falls under 'act of nature'...or something of the sort.

I know someone who rolled a rock into his pickup and the insurance covered that under comp, so yours probably will too.

Hopefully yours is covered under comp but I hit a branch once and the repair costs were covered under collision. Good luck!

That damn branch must have fallen on me. How else could I not have seen it?

i swerved to avoid hitting a dog in my 81 gs and my insurance covered the damages as "collision". they gave me like $300.00. people should have kept the dog on a leash.

nope, comprehensive is only for a car sitting still, and since you were driving its called a 'Collision'

I've had 'Collisions' with deer and those repairs have always been covered under comprehensive.

I hit a deer once, but can't remember if it was collision or comprehensive.

Success! AAA says they cover it under comprehensive since the branch fell on me. Now I just hope they don't try to 'total' my car for some cheap bluebook price, 'cause I bought this car in 82, keep it covered, it's still like new, and I like it!

This is the first time in my (long) life I've filed a claim. Maybe the insurance gods will smile on me.

you could try going after the contractor/city employees that look after the road, saying they didn't keep the road in good repair...

I think I'll luck out. The lady who I talked to was thrilled when I said my license was N O P I S T N, she knew right away! And when I told her the other car is NO VALVE she was delighted. She loves RX-7s! Wants one, but can't afford it yet. She has a chance at a free 260Z with blown engine but doesn't know where to get the engine. I told her that I'd probably sell the red83 I'm restoring for a $1000 after I spend another $2000 on it.

A really big branch almost hit my car while it was parked.
Missed b about 2 feet, but probably would have crushed my car.

As is, I got away with only a couple light scratches to the paint.

I just hope CSAA doesn't try to total my car (the shop estimated $2600) because that car is my baby. I just totaled up $3700 I put in it in the last 2 years for stuff you]d expect at 100k (brakes, shocks, cluthch, transmission, pump, radiator, etc). I suppose at worst I'd have to settle for the BlueBook value.

CSAA says they're totaling it (sob!) and they've reported it to the DMV. Apparently, this is mandatory. Well, I don't care about the title since I'm not selling it. They'll give me net $1600. I guess that's OK, the repair estimate was $2600, but if I replace the headlight housing and some other things maybe I can get the shop costs down to $1600 and break even.

Sorry to hear there totaling it, I wonder what they might want for it if you wanted to buy it back.

$55! So I bought it back. The whole deal wraps around and I end up with $1600 and a salvage title. Oh well. Better than nothing.

not a bad deal, but the salvage title sucks, insurance can be pretty lame sometimes.
