crankcase vent pics

Just wanted to say hello to everyone first and would also like to thank you all for the excellent info I have found on this site. I recently did a nest removal and put on a sterling carb and this little 12a came alive. Thanks busafreak for the great deal on that carb, it rocks. The only problem I have is Im not sure how to vent the crankcase. I had a hard time seeing it in the editorial pics. Could anyone help me out?? Thanks Guys and Gals............Joey By the way it is an 84

This is my interpretation of the rats nest removal pictorial, and how mines been run for some time now.
I believe it included the crankcase ventilation/purge system.
If you look on page 254 and 256 of the Haynes manual, it is the same routing with the exception of the idle compensator tee-d in between the purge valve and the plastic baseplate.
Please correct the diagram if you see somthing wrong.

Search up "PCV Valve" in the 1st gen section and you'll find lots of threads on how to do it slightly differently, using a PCV valve instead of the purge valve like Carl did. Many of us have tried it with great success.

in my situation it seems ones goin to the ac the ditrib ones capped and the other ones to where the purge valve goes so should i block those two off and t both into the dist vaccum hole???

From looking at the Haynes manual, and the FSM with the rats nest intact, there are solenoids that either control just the trailing, or a solenoid for each, trailing and leading(different years), the later years have one for each.
In one description it says the solenoid turns on the trailing when otherwise it would not be active to protect the cat.
If you have no nest, there is no way for it to be controlled, unless one of the ports is only open when the secondaries open? It may not matter, but I would use one line with a T.

Also, if you have just a hose from the filler tube to the bowl vent, there is no place for either fumes to go, they need to be sucked into the intake and burned. You need a purge valve or a PCV.

Hope I helped you.

On an SA it's really simple, you just run one hose from the carbon canister in the aircleaner lid to the fitting on the center housing, tee in the smaller tank purge line, and install a little breather filter on the nipple on the oil filler tube. You do need to be careful adding oil so you don't get oil in the little breather filter.
