cooling problem with new engine

i swaped out my engine last weekend with just another eng. and for the last week it was running fine about 1/3 up the temp gauge unless i was WOT and going like 100+ and it got up to about 1/2 way. well yesterday i was driven home and it wouldnt go below to the 1/2 mark, i changed the water pump, made a radiator shroud for my e-fan i got the idea from here he's a forum member http://pengaru.com/~swivel/cars/rx-7/pics/07-23-2004/ just not the same.

1. why would this happen while im under load it would heat up like that?

2. and why would it all asudden stay hot like that and not cool down back to where it was before even though the WP was changed?

could it be the t-stat went bad? it seems like the t-stat is opening up late? i know that the t-stat is suppose to start to open at 165* F but its taking up to almost to the 1/2 mark on the temp gauge. i read where some of the guys on this forum the the temps stay steady at 1/3 mark all year round even under heavy load. how can i achieve this goal and maintain it?

I can encouragly say that check the fan, im not saying this is a problem

My electric fan quit working on me for about 5 minutes (dang wire) and the gauge was at 3/4. It took about 30 minutes to get to 1 1/2. I was trouble shooting the problem when I found the wire.

get a fan from auto zone. works great. or victoria british.

1> check the coolant flow, remove the radiator cap when cold, warm up engine. There should be a noticable flow. If not, the thermostat is frozen closed, or your radiator is clogged. Replace the cheap thermo stat first.

2> is you fan shroud on?

If your fan isn't coming on until the temp gauge is at the 1/2 mark, that's too late. Get a real temp gauge installed and set the fan to come on at 180-185*. If the temp gauge is at the 1/2 mark before load, load is only going to make it worse.

May sound silly, but make sure you wired the fan so it blows in the correct direction, easy error to make when reinstalling parts.

im runnin the at all times. for now i cut the t-stat and im using the top portion of it and made a plate and attached it to the half of the t-stat that im using and the temps is around 1/3 the way. when i get the money for a gauge im going to get one. i got the fan wired up so that it oulls from the outside into the eng bay which is how Quinton at Holton Automotive to me to wire it , while i was back in G-ville FL.
