Coolant Hoses

I have got some nasty looking rad/coolant hoses on my car.

I would like to replace all of them.

There are the upper and lower rad hoses, the heater core hoses and looks like a couple of hoses to the oil cooler. Anyelse?

Can I just replace these with flex hose or are some of these molded? Thanks

Replacing all the rubber hoses in my "vintage" 17 year old car is probably a good idea. I notice that hosetechnigues doesn't have a "kit" for the 1st gen but they have it for the 2nd and 3rd, go figure. I suppose I could buy a bunch of hose in bulk but what sizes should I get?

We should all e-mail them and tell them to make us a kit!

The upper and lower hoses are molded hose, the two hoses at the heater core are molded hose (especially the big long one that goes to the engine) but the ones from the steel tube to the radiator can be just a regular hose, and you could probably get away with simple 90deg bend hose for the oil cooler hoses.

I called NAPA and Advance Auto in search of the Big Long 3-Dozen Bends heater hose. Their parts books only list a "cut to fit" hose with a single 90 degree bend in them. I hate it when the hose manufacturers do that to you, they make it look like they actually have the part but when you get it in your hands you realize ain't NO way it's gonna work.

Mazda dealers might have the hose. If there are none near you or they're uncooperative because your car is older than 1987, Mazdatrix also stocks the hose.

I called my local mazda dealer as they are the only ones who have the "molded" hoses....all others I tried to get are those twist and bend hoses to fit. I want the molded ones. They will cost you $20.00 for each hose.(up and lower)...I don;t know about the other hoses yet. How many of you are riding with 17-18 year old hoses on your cars??? If you are not , whatdid you guys replace your hoses with??...Thanks....cjf....................

Hell, I got mine from pep-boys, fit perfectly and they even had them in stock.
Only problem I had was trying to tighten all the fasteners on the lower radiator hose after throwing the engine heater on there.

found my rad hose at autozone. they only had the upper one, but i found that the upper and lower hoses are darn near interchangeable. i've also read that the lower hose *should* have some kind of spring inside to keep it from collapsing at higher rpm's, yet none of the replacements i've seen have this. victoria bristish also stocks the OEM rad hoses.

White Trash had 90% original 1980 hoses on it... I had to replace the heater tube to radiator hose because I swapped radiators and they weren't exactly the same.

'85 has 95% original hoses... had to replace a 6" section of the Big Long Heater Hose after it burst from oil soak. I replaced it with a section of OE hose that was attached to an old beehive oil cooler I had kicking around, and a hose fitting I made out of a piece of heater core. So I suppose 100% of the hoses are Mazda OE hose, just some of it's been transplanted
