Finally, visual aid for my problems! :)
OK--Two questions...
First: What to do with these three tubes? The idle compensator tube is the one that's currently plugged (with a screw). What the heck does it do (all i know is it stays closed under ~150 F and opens above ~150 F)? I think the other black hose is the after-burner #2 thing. I have no clue what that small metal pipe coming out from the rat's nest does (it hooks into the stock filter housing). And since I'm not using the air pump but I want to keep it on there to balance my pulleys, do I need to plug any of the openings that are left when I take all the tubes off? Sorry about the BRIGHT photos, I had to use a cheap digital camera...
Second: Not being the original owner, I don't know exactly what all was changed under the hood. Why is this thing held onto another thing by a plastic tie? Is it because it's aftermarket, or what? And... What is it?!
Thanx

The one in the middle looks like the shutter valve. Just plug all that **** till you can take it off I cant tell what the front one is pointing to.
BTW: Which part of Huntsville do you live in? My gf's parents live on the SW side near the arsenal...

Old [Sch|F]ool
please take that to the forsale section.
also $500??? You can get a running parts car for that much. I bought a complete running engine with flywheel and transmission for $200, junkyards generally want $150 or so for transmissions, etc.

this has some info on the a/f hoses,http://pittdp.homestead.com/underhood.html, the second picture looks like some kind of switch or relay, did it have a alarm system at one time?

DONNA: nope... no alarm as far as i know--or maybe the previous owner also "FORGOT" to tell me that...
Felix Wankel: That front one is to that bright metal thing... right behind the alternator--this is probably a better picture:

(just ignore the frontmost arrow that points to the air pump)
AND--I live in SE huntsville... I live close to Grissom High School (maybe that will help?)...

That looks like an AC relay of some sort. The AC for 1st gens(not sure which years) were put on at the port of entry to the US or at the dealership. And there were two suppliers. I have yet to see two exactly the same AC systems in a FB or SA. One 83 must have had a mile of extraneous wire for the system. It was looped and bundled I was scared by the stuff. I probably could have cut 10lbs of the crap off
