Colder Thermostat
for those looking to reduce temps slightly, i've run across this
its 77c instead of 82c, and their "high flow" means that its probably about the same as stock

But does it have the jiggle pin? Also they make one thats 160F as well. RA is 1/2 the price but then they add shipping so with prime this may be a win. The OEM temp is 180F BTW.
Currently I have very reduced temps because my tstat is stuck open I'm missing my heat. I'm probably going to go with the ACDelco 170F because it has the jiggle pin in it,

What is the consensus on colder Tstats? I never really hear much about them for our application. Always thought OEM Tstat was the best way to go.
I am running a 12A streetport with all new cooling system hardware, I am using a 3row CSF rad (for 1982 with FMOC) and a Mazda OEM Tstat.
Is it ideal to have these running slightly cooler than the OEM setting?

if you just run a cold thermostat in a stock(ish) street car, its going to do more harm than good, because everything will be too cold most of the time.

if you have a street car, the stock thermostat is perfect. if you had a car that was on the race track, or was modified AND got driven really hard, you might want to drop the temps just a bit.

Seriously, it also depends on how you have the engine tuned. If its slightly lean it will run hotter but you may want it to be lean for some reason so a cooler tstat can make a difference.
