Cold start problems?

Now that it is starting to get cold I am having problems starting my 81. Has new stock Nikki installed last year with these parts. Spark plugs and wires, vacuum lines, fuel filters, altenator and new old stock mazda fuel pump on a re-built motor with 24,000 miles. Change oil reguraly and add seafoam every 6th tank. If it warms up later in the day it starts but cold in the morning I am having problems. Once it is warmed up, it will fire right up with no problems. Anyone know what I can check or suggestions?

Is the choke system operating properly?
Is the battery cranking normally, or does it seem sluggish when it's cold out?

I drove my Rx7 to work this morning (Hey's its my friday I work Friday-Tuesday) and it was very hard to start this morning.

When I turned the key to the on position until I heard the fuel pump, pumped it down 2 times and the 3rd time held it half away. When the starter would crank it would be very sluggish and sounds like it would almost grind. I had to keep trying to start it and the volts would drop pretty low and after turning the key off and turning to the start position fast and hard a few times it would crank at almost normal speed.

And this happens when my car is old, not neccessarily when it's cold outside but it does worsen the situation.

I had this exact problem (although it was spring/summer at the time) and a new battery fixed it. I haven't had a single problem starting the car since. Check that out. If your choke system and cold start are working properly, theres very little else that could be causing that problem.

Cranking speed is everything on a rotary for starting purposes. When you state that your battery is new, 1 day, 1 week. Actually it does not matter. Is it cranking normally or does it sound sluggish and cranking slow?

Remove the cables from the battery and clean the cables and the posts on the battery, then have the battery tested.

Sorry couldnt answer sooner. Had to travel. Battery is cranking just like it always has been. Sounds the same. Thanks for helping RX7Doctor. I know you can help identify the problem.
