Talking coasting valve diagnosis

hi there,

I was wondering how what the procedure is for checking whether the coasting valve is working properly?

I was told to put my finger over one of the holes in the airfilter housing (the one next to the metal clip thing that looks like a thermostat) and feel for suction.

During idle there is no suction but when the engine is running above idle it has quite a bit of suction.

any ideas?

thanks

If there's suction on the big hose at idle, the coasting (shutter) valve is bad. There's a lively debate on whether to plug it and go, or replace it.

Well I wouldn't call it a lively debate BUT it sounds like your valve is OK because it don't suck air at idle. But it wouldn't hurt to plug the large hose to see if it improves.
Just do 1 thing at a time not 4 or 5 and wonder which one helped.

do you mean the large outlet on the air filter about 1.5cm in diameter that is next to the metal clip thing inside the filter housing.??

That would be the one! I pulled mine off last night and shoved a marrette (one of those caps used to connect house wire) into it to seal it. MAJOR improvement!!!

Thats right wrong one its at the rear of the ac next to the idle compensator. Only other large hose that goes in the base of the ac.
