Clunking noise upon acceleration

Sometimes when I first accelerate, change gears, or let out the clutch, I hear a "clunking" or a small "thud" noise from the trannie or diff.. i can't really tell. How do i fix this? Its really annoying.

It could be an exhaust part hitting something. Is your exhaust stock? Maybe you have a bad motor mount? Is your tranny mount secure?

u-joints are the most likely culprit

Tranny oil has never been changed. I'm eventually going to get some Redline MT-90 to put in there. After searching a bit, its probably the u-joints. I'm going to jack up the car later and see if I can wiggle the driveshaft around. If it IS bad, anyone have a good spare? Junkyards are NOT good anywhere around here.

For a wearing joint like a U-joint, don't cheat yourself. Buy new.

sometimes you can get a driveshaft custom built for less than a new one. i had one made for my old gslse that cost about $220. and the u joints those guys used were much heavier duty than what the stock ones were.
