clear (Oil?) lines?

ok, running from under my fan somewhere are 2 clear hard plastic lines maybe 1/4 " thick coming up over the side of my engine and going into it (I think) they travel just under and to the side of my alternator, I broke these, and need to know what they are to replace them (or do I need to?) any help is great, thanks.

oh, its an '82 GSL

Those lines are for your Oil Metering Pump.

This pump takes small amounts of oil (2cc/6min @2000rpm I believe) and channel it into your intake manifold to mix with the air and fuel. If you drive your car without these lines, your engine will sieze up and die.

Seriously, your car is *supposed* to burn a little bit of oil.. don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Now go fix those lines.

These are oil lines that supply oil to the intake system to lubricate the apex seals inside the cumbustion chambers of your engine. They run from the oil metering pump (omp) that is on the lower front left side of the engine. It meters a small amount of oil from your internal lubrication system. Yes you need to replace these and they can be purchased from http://www.mazdatrix.com/ or from your local mazda dealer. You could premix oil into the gas tank (alot of racers do this) but you would need to block off the omp to prevent it from pumping oil out of the engine.

The other alternative is to remove the OMP and start putting 2-stroke in your gasoline.

you really need to use gas line as the oil will eventualy wear down the washer line. it would be an alright temp. fix but seriously you need to get a new line. you could mend it with gas line, but it would be better to replace the whole line so you would have no leaks. i have got an xtra set i would sell ya, or go to your mazda dealer, get some line and mend them. that is the only place that sells that small of gas line. i have seen clear fuel line at the hardware store, like for lawnmowers and such that looks like the right size but have never tried using it. pm me if you want the lines i got.

That is awsome to know. I do have a question about the omp lines but maybe I am just thinking too much. The 12a lines o.d. diameter is the same as the barbs o.d. (1/8" I think) that it connects to and uses an elbow of silicone(?) hose to union the two together. On the 13b the hose is just flared open and fits on the banjo fittings barbed connection which I think is 1/8". The actual i.d. of the hoses is quite smaller. My question is if you just used a 1/8" i.d. hose such as a braided stainless eliminating the coupling piece/flaring section, does the larger i.d. diameter hose change the amount of oil being delivered? I really think the design of the factory hose was to make it semi rigid and not to require brackets to hold it to the contours of the engine. I feel better to have gotten that in the open.
