Civics != Threat

Hey Guys!

(!= means "does not equal" for those of you not coding in C++ or Java)

w00t... a cool thing happened aon the way home

Let me first say that I don't condone street racing in 90% of circumstances... but I now officially know that civics are not a threat to my Roxy.

I was at the intersection of St Raymond and Cite des Jeunes at a stop light. At the previous light it had been me beside a poweder blue honda civic. He had noticed that I had a bit of pep in my pedal through the last block, so when the light turned green he decided to race.

Now of course, I'm driving the "Diesel Sunfire"... this is my mum's 1997 Pontiac Sunfire which has major engine problems that make it go "clack-a-clack-a" like a diesel. Something with the valves I believe, but I'm not a piston person. It's an auto, and as far as I was concerned it's pretty under-powered. In any case, I'm like "what the heck. The roads are deserted, the next light is less than a km away, I'm probably gonna lose but who cares". The road we were on starts up top a hill, goes "down" for maybe two hundred metres, then steeply starts to climb again.

And now I can officially say that my mum's craptacular sunfire beat a civic through all the gears and ALMOST to the light. When we hit the hill going "up" after the overpass, the poor sunfire just couldn't muster any more power.. it was going uphill at 155km/hr and just let the civic pull ahead a few feet. I let up at this point, partly because I knew I couldn't take the hill any faster, and partly out of an instinct of self-preservation.

Man.. what a rush. It really was my first real "street" race, but if the crappy sunfire can beat a civic to almost the fastest speed *I* am willing to travel, then I'm sure my mazda can do much better.

Let me repeat that I don't condone street racing in 90% of cases. Here we were the only two on a straight stretch of road with good visibility later in the night. Not that it makes it any better, but it wasn't near any residential areas, or anywhere that someone could get hurt other than me or the civic ricer. He even had one of those blue neon lights around his licence plate and windshield washers that blinked

I beat a civic or two in a Ford Aerostar or whatever the hell those old school minivans were. I actually outran one Civic in my 84 Toyota 4x4 with 35x14.5 tires on it, and it was even regeared lower from the stock 4.10 with 5.71s in the diffs! Granted I had a 22R with a Weber, headers, ignition recurve, a cam, and all kinds of other goodies, but damn it, it was funny!

I have done the same in a Jeep Cherokee The only upgrades it has is a mandrel bent exhaust and Bosch fuel injectors (I'm not sure if they come with the XJ or not, but these are somewhat decent aftermarket ones.)

Damn it's a rush when you're used to driving a slow *** car (i.e. The Jeep that I drive around in with 31x10.50 tires and a slipping tranny/torque converter. The XJ I kicked a Civic's *** with had no lift or tires.)

I love how everyone knocks civics. I drive a Civic Si when I am not in my GSL-SE, and it certainly is no slouch.

Go ahead, everyone say how slow my other car is.

You know the funny thing is people on Honda boards don't tend to knock every other make and model out there. I am trying to figure out where the animosity comes from.

I have been beaten by a crx in my RX but it had allot of it done to it. Oh well I don't think to much will be able to touch the RX as soon as i get the turbo complete execpt those damn street bikes. LOL (I have a kawasaki ninja too)

im not surprised, some vans are fast. my moms 04 odyssey is pretty quick. might trade it in for the new 05' with 15 more hp. anyways i raced my friends v6 99 3.8l 5spd mustang from second gear on till about 80mph. dead even the whole way, except i had him for the first couple seconds, when he switcehd to third he caught up and it was then tied for the rest of the way.

so with that said, i think it would be real funny to race these two asian kids in my school who think they have the fastest cars in the world...
one is an 93-95 hatch civic with a b16 and the other is a 96-00 hatch. on the older one, i saw his dyno sheet and only 132 to the wheels. i dont know aobut the other one. but they think they can beat any car on the road, even my friends 350z...

i know they raced each other, and the newer civic won. i also know the newer civic raced a maxima (99 i think) 5spd and lost. so im pretty sure i could easily beat them both in my moms minivan. if i get the chance ill do it.

I believe most of the animosity comes from the fact that so many kid's parents get them a Civic for their birthday, and then proceed to rice it out beyond belief. Yea, you know what I'm talking about.

[rant]
First item on the list: A WING! .... ok, so what's a wing going to do for you? I'm sure you'll need all that downforce, since you'll be going so amazingly fast...

Next: The FART PIPE! So everyone can hear you winding it out in 1st gear.... IN JUST UNDER 10 SECONDS! "Damn, it's loud, so it must be fast!"

I could sit here and bash Civics all day. All it really comes down to is the fact that 98% of the people with Civics think they're badasses. They give the other respectable 2% a bad name. (Those aren't actual numbers.) For example, the other day, I was driving into town (Clemmons, NC for those of you who might know of it), and I see a CRX heading in the opposite direction. It wasn't too riced out, almost good looking. When I passed it, I discovered that it had an actual EXHAUST system on it! It wasn't some retarded-*** fart pipe. This thing sounded fkin' sweet.

So, not all Civic (or import) owners are 'badasses'. But a majority of them are.

Rice? A term used back the early 70's towards Japanese made motorcycles. Also a term that many today use to describe Japanese cars. Oh, WAIT! My RX is made in Japan! Just as the Honda is. Yea I know what you guys are refering to when you say RICE. A buddy of mine has a Civic that is no slouch also. An Accura motor and a few other mods. He is putting down right at 220 hp, to my 180ish. Still a close race when we line up seeing how he isn't very good at shifting or getting of the line. Yes, our FB's may be slow but damn fun to drive. Well, let me retract some of that. Not ALL FB's are slow either.

I beat a friend in a super-riced civic with my parents stock CRV one time. Just barely but **** you can't argue with a car length. This was a looong time ago, like '97 back when I'd probably race anything that had wheels and a seat. Before the whole ricing phase really hit the east coast. Oh the days

Until I paint the SE I will continue to drive the Civic more. For some reason people don't want to ride in a faded brown car with a white door as much as I thought they would. I tried, "But people, it is an SE. Special Edition biotches." And they were like, "Dude, it is still ugly..." My ex absolutely refused to ride in it.

Plus the Civic has room for 4; a commoditiy most of my friend's cars don't have. Good to see that some people on here admit not all Hondas are bad.

I have a mechanic buddy who used to do body work who told me he would help me paint it over the winter. Well, prep it that is. After we do the prep work he says he has a buddy who will spray it for a relatively inexpensive amount. I want the paint to look brand new (and stay that way), but I don't want to spend twice as much on the paint job as I did on the car. I can't wait to get started...

I dont hate civics, I hate riced out civics. I respect the ones that deserve it. Like I used to work with a guy who had a Civic SI, and he had a full catless exhuast, intake, chip, and was working on injectors and some other fuel stuff. All stock body, all around a great looking car. Spanked my 85 GSL with RB exhaust. Then I also know a guy who purposely put a fart cannon muffler on his car and told me "it looks like full exhaust" and has neon everywhere, and his plans for street glow were "like the car in the fast and the furious". Direct quotes I swear. Thats what I hate. People who just imitate. I think we should call them posers instead, lol. If they have real plans that include maybe trying to make it perform rather than just looking like it does, Ill give them the respect. And as far as bashing on a car because of what it looks like, thats kinda out of my book either way, because its their car, ya know? Ahh, whatever. Too much to try and explain, its all really a case-by-case basis, lol.

Its not so much the Honda products as it is the "Rice Culture" that people are bashing when they bash Hondas...

Look at it this way Rice culture (Noisey Mods, Fast and Fureious type stuff you know) is very quickly distroying everything for the responsible preformance enthusiats.

Isurance companies are now making it EXTREAMLY difficult , if not IMPOSSIBLE to get inusrance on modified cars.

Police are targeting import cars now much much more then they used to.

This is all due to Fast and Thr Furious type Rice Culture and the Flag ship car is the Honda Civic so all the animosity for the civic is actually towards Rice Culture in Genral.

Who knows a year from now we may be picking on the Lancer it is hard to say...

BTW flames can go to /dev/null

HAHAHA My friend (female) is afraid to ride in mine because the exhaust is "so loud and it smells". The smell is the exhaust. I say "It's supposed to smell like that, its a rotary dammit".

When I was at the Pull A Part a week or so go, and I when to schuck's there to get a hacksaw. This guy parked right next to me with a CRX that was hooked up no pain job but the car was hooked up nice. He looked at mine and I look at his. We smile and that was it I left to get my work done and he continue putting some part to his car. But yea, I like CRX just about one of the only cars I like from honda beside the S2000.

To IanS Yea, I feel ya on that one. My girlfriend dosen't like driving alot on my car because the exhaust smell. She loves my car but not the smell and the amazing loud exhaust. Hehehe. I told her when I get a Racing Beat that all that will change.

p.s.--> a h22 hatch is a civic

Well .. I agree with the fact that we badmouth alot of civics because .. well.. they represent 95% of all that is riced up out there .. NEVERTHELESS, I have this friend ... he has this kickass civic ... Practicly the only one I really respect ... it's completely stock .. he's got 15" honda rims on it .. a nice, clean dark red paint job on it ... Beleive it or not, THAT'S THE ONLY EXTERIOR MOD !!! :P Under the hood : H22 turbo .. he runs 13 flat on a 1/4 mile .. He's got a nice, deep, non-fartcan sound to it .. It's really REALLY nice ! ( he's half a car's length behind a 2004 Viper ! lol )

So .. don't bash ALL civics, bash RICERS in general !

Cyas !

And my friend Jim's CRX is a cool-looking car with few-no exterior mods, and we're working under his hood...

But the respectable civics are few and far between. Most of the time the civics are either bone-stock daily drivers, or riced-up cars with bone-stock engine bays.

All show and no go is common for civics, and is something I despise in car owners
