cat with no air pump

besides it burning out the cat alot faster/clogging. what are the cons of doing this?

the car still has a high flow cat and i installed a enigne without a air pump because i will be replacing it the exh. system very soon

my car was smoking alot around the cat area within the first 5-6 mins, it had a major oil leak before so the whole under body was soaked with oil so i pressure washed it. but i think its just burning off the crap

Without the airpump and a factory exhuast manifold, I've been told you run the risk of overheating a side seal spring.

yes i had an oil leak that had the underside of my car in oil and had a layer on the cat which caused it to smoke a little. as long as your cat is not glowing red then everything should be fine. get the oil leak fixed!

it glows RED. it looks cool. here is my video. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=2lXuSzEJcyw but a way to fix that is to ram a stick in it. like my other video with it off. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ7Bv3uKiAw

That wasn't glowing. You should have seen the RB header on my 6P 13B. Timing was only retarded about 90* when I got the car.

The air pump adds oxygen to the catalytic converter to complete the oxidation process of the exhaust byproducts because there isn't enough oxygen in the mixture leaving the engine. This is an exothermic process, meaning it releases heat, meaning it actually makes everything HOTTER. The air pump does NOT cool the cat.

Without the air pump, your HC and CO emissions will be higher than they would with it and it will smell worse. The cat may stop working correctly over time, but it's not because it burned up or clogged, it's because the coatings used to catalyze the oxidation process become covered with these incompletely combusted products and can no longer perform their function. If the cat is of good quality, it won't clog or burn up without the air pump.
